Capt. Bo of the WTF co.
Mr. Thatcher, a word of advice from a 21 year veteran of re-enacting; You will one day stand back after loading all that stuff and say to yourself-"How did I get so much crap!?!" It is fun to build, but very quickly you will begin to feel the burden. Simple and less is best, but you are new to this and we have all been there so you will need to experience this for yourself I suppose. I have a 12' X 16' shed dedicated to re-enacting shh..stuff that I have recently begun downsizing so we can move through it. Anyway, just my two-bits. Good luck! callenish gunner
I'd have to agree with capt. Bo ...up to a point. I have been doing reenacting for some 35+ years now I have gone from the light weight down and dirty encampment to what I see now as a bit of creature comforts a table or a chest if well designed and scaled right can be both functional and relaxing on the off hours around camp. I have come to the point in my life (after 60) that a collapsible bed allows me to get a good night's sleep and I can't keep climbing up off the ground forever(with bad knees). I will put together a set of plans I have used in the past that makes a quite passable camp table. A chest can also double as a home storage unit and even be used as an end table or a nightstand. I have a slightly large chest that I use as a coffee table in the living room that we store pistols in. Everything we carry to be able to operate a sutlery with two sizable tents plus fly and the supplies for our encampment plus the furniture also are carried in a 4X4x8ft trailer that also is used to store items that aren't perishable.... silas thatcher
as of right now, i have 1 1/2 hammocks,3/4 of 1 tent done, have to get a big tent, need a fly, but we got nuffin to sit on or set stuff on other than coleman folding chairs, and a plastic top table ( you know, the newer ones with collapsible legs ). as far as i know --- now correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think coleman was around to outfit sailors back "in the day"... just trying to blend in better at the camp... michaelsbagley
I don't believe this item has any actual historic provenance.... But it is a cool looking seat, and it has a very good historic look and feel to it... Which is why I am going with it... I think someone may have shared this link somewhere on the pub at some point, but here it is again.
