Tomas Guerrero Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 The Pirate Primmer: Mastering the language of swashbucklers and rogues Think of the Primer as a reference book. It will give a word or phrase, and give it as it is used in Pirate fiction, movies, etc, and then give its definition. An excellent and interesting read. A must-have for your pirate library. "For art to exist, for any sort of aesthetic activity to exist, a certain physiological precondition is indispensable: intoxication." -Friedrich Nietzsche
William Brand Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 The Pirate Primer is a fun read, but it draws primarily on pop culture quotes. I recommend dictionaries like "1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue by Francis Grose" http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/5402 and the "Canting Dictionary of 1736" http://www.fromoldbooks.org/NathanBailey-C...nscription.html .
Hawk the QM Posted October 11, 2008 Author Posted October 11, 2008 Thanks for the opinions mates. Also, thank you for the other books as well. Yaaar!
