Silkie McDonough
Watch your ports ...tawny or Ruby ...I like tawny.
Capt. Sterling
Both are nice, including a porto, but tawny is the best... especially ten years old or older... ye know the stale stuff... Cheeky Actress
Rats, I do remember purchasing a bottle of Mount Gay Rum on our way to the Pyrate encampment. Known to be the oldest rum in Barbados. It's history dates back to as early as 1663, making it one of the world's most earlier brands of rum. Very period correct. Another Damn Good Port is Warre’s! The oldest British-owned Port house, Warre's was founded by two young entrepreneurs, Clarke and Thornton, in 1670. These two adventurers were out to make their fortune in Portugal, following the marriage of King Charles II to Catherine of Bragança. The pair settled in Viana do Castelo, a town at the mouth of the River Lima in northern Portugal, not that far from Bragança itself. Relations between France and England were deteriorating, and this included an embargo on French goods, naturally including wine. They set about taking advantage of the situation by establishing trade between England and their new home. Woollen goods and dried cod came from England, in exchange for local products, typically the wines of northern Portugal. With the Anglo-French War in 1689, which was acted out not only in Europe but North America also, there was an even greater demand for their goods. The two businessmen looked further inland for sources of wine, their combined gaze settling on the wines of the Douro. And so it was that the firm that would one day be Warre's began trading in the wine that would one day simply be referred to as Port. I recently tried Warre's Warrior Special Reserve Port at Bristol. It as a good nose, wonderful mild taste for a tawny port. Doesn’t have a bite like some of the more ‘mature’ ports. I think the Captain liked it too. michaelsbagley
Actually, funny thing about the rum... In the rush to unpack Kate and I so M.A. d'Dogge could get on his way home, I wound up with the Mount Gay rum, and he ran off with my bottle... Fortunately, both bottles had a like amount of rum in them, so I'm thinking it is a fair trade. I was going to polish off the bottle this Sunday with a few friends before going to see Alice Cooper in concert.
