Kenneth
Anyone interested, we have a few things coming and our normal on goings. Kern Co. pirates go out once a month on the skiffs for a camp out in Montano De Oro. We leave from Morro Bay and follow the coast line south a bit. There is a little cove we camp in that can only be reached by boat. It's very primitive camping and the boats are small, so you have to be in good physical shape. We have room for 3 or 4 people every so often, you can bring one small ditty bag and whatever you can hold on your person. You'll need enough food for yourself for 2 days and foul weather gear. If this sounds fun to you send me a PM. We have workshops once a month as well here in Bakersfield, California. In mid February we are having a workshop on Lantern making. We'll each recreate a period lantern from an example we have. In mid March we will have a workshop on Sail making. We won't go into detail on the history of sail making but we will make a period sail that will do just that....sail. Or use your skills to make the perfect make shift tent. In mid April our workshop will be on belly boxes. We'll be creating one from a photo example.. PM me for info and what you will need to bring.. Captain McCool
Seen you guys around the interwebs. I love your look! I may or may not have used your original costume guidelines posted on Myspace (with permission) as a basis for my own crew's costume guidelines. Thanks again for the inspiration! You guys seem to have a very good time doing what you do. Keep on doing it! j8ksdad
Sounds like a fine idea! I was scoping out how long it would take to get up to Bakersfield. It is a bit too far for a day trip. I'll eat when I'm hungry. I'll drink when I'm dry. If the hard times don't kill me I'll lay down and die. Rye whiskey! Rye whiskey! Rye whiskey I cry. If you don't give me rye whiskey, I surely will die.

casketchris
This July’s workshop was a nice and easy one we did coconut canteens with rope slings simple but fun project, and only burnt myself once with the paraffin wax. This project takes some early planning. You’ve got to let it dry out for 2 weeks or so after drilling out the mouth. I dried it out for about three days then used a hammer and screw driver . . . not good! Punched a whole right through the side, glued back together and sealed with the wax a still holding water just fine. My only fear is the amount of abuse it can really take. If anyone is interested I can post pictures and basic plans. Kenneth
Finding crew members......very hard. Where are all the people near Bakersfield? "Without caffine, I'd have no personality at all"
Kenneth
Heading to Long Beach Pyrate festival tomorrow, camping with the double cross....still haven't found any new members in Kern Co. that feel like hand sewing..Been on tall ships, blown onion bottles, folded musket barrels and forging parts for flintlocks now. this hobby is consuming my life. Read so many books, I won't even discuss anything about the golden age unless it's with Chris...I should have just joined a civil war unit... Anyways, anyone in our area, you're welcome to join in on the madness, if there are any out there, drop us a line.
