Matusalem
I just had a thought, maybe some of you here could offer insight. This morning, I was pawing through a number of 'beachcams' on the net. What would it take to set up a camera, or a couple of camers at a variety of locations such a s Ft.Zach, Mallory Sqare, etc? I know it would require mainly a cumputer to act as a server, and access to a internet cable line. Would it be possible for atttendees of PIP to pay for the cable service? Would it even be worth it? I didn't make it last year but it might be interesting if there could be some on-line hijinks (staged or spontaneous) on a webpage. just a thought. hurricane
There's already web cams all over Key West, including Mallory Square, Duval, Hogsbreath, the marina... etc. But, as far as I know, there's not one at the fort. But connectivity could be a bit more pragmatic out there since Wi-Fi is extremely spotty. But that's Harry's area. Great idea!!!! -- Hurricane -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. michaelsbagley
That is a really cool idea... Taking the idea a baby step forward... If such a setup partially exists or is created, would we be able to get our hands on the footage? Just thinking for next years video. It could be a good additional source for whomever decides to take on that noble task next year.
William Brand
Actually I've been discussing that with a friend out of New York. He does a live cam for a convention every year and he does a ten second frame shot the whole time which produces a great time lapse video of the whole event. Even if the wi-fi proves to be spotty next year, we could still do the time lapse with the proper equipment.
Misson
Something like this view? http://www.callahandigitalart.com/photocar...viewImage=14752 "I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.” -Oscar Wilde "If we all worked on the assumption that what is accepted is really true, there would be little hope of advance." -Orville Wright
William Brand
Exactly. It would need to be a shielded setup, of course, but it is very plausible. Dong one down at the encampments becomes a logistical nightmare, so that's out. It would be nice to have a camera on a pivoting mount, so that we could record some of the field battle, but I think that an angle showing the parade grounds would provide the best overall shot. Captain Jim
I should propose two cameras, one as noted and the other pointed out at the battle area with a wide enough view to capture the sunset, passing ships and perhaps pyrates taking in the sunset as well. You could mount it on "Rusty" the sculpture. My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around...
Harry
The "pyrate cam" would be a great addition to the event! I'll do some checking on this end to learn how we can make this happen. ------- Fort Taylor Pyrate Fest MySpace Page Master Hairbone's MySpace Page ------- There is no more equitable judge than a cannon

Capt. Sterling
Doing one down at the encampments becomes a logistical nightmare, so that's out. Thank goodness, would like some privacy. Captain Jim
Yeah, but do you really want to be seen in public with them... Joke, joke! Just kidding! Capt. Sterling
hmmmm **scratching stubble on chin** Ye may have a very valid point here, Capt. Jim... Honestly I don't want to be seen on a web cam period... public is one thing...but not every second of every day...
