Go with the reserved bleacher seats - it's the only way to see the parade and still have mobility. And bring a cooler of booze - tough to cross over to vendors once the parade starts.

Wish I could attend it.

Haven't heard much about it since '03. Sounds like an interesting event.

It's basically a good reason to drink. The pirate crewes are very cartoony and usually very drunk. But the floats look great. The real party is in Ybor City after the parade as all the crewes shift into the local bars and fill the streets.

It's something everyone should do once, though...

Wow. What a party. We took hundreds of photos. We had a blast. It was a shame that there wasn't too many reenactors or even good fantasy costumes. I counted the real pirates on one hand. That made for alot of photo opps with the crowd. We plan on getting more involved next year in some way or another.

Pictures and short story coming soon. Stay tuned.

I've looked into getting a gig in town for that event but so far I've turned up nothing. I'll dig into it more after our trip to Europe this August, in preparation for 2009.

Glad to know it is as much fun as it looked like! Thanks for the report.
