Misson Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I actually have it in mind to make two of them. I have two skeletons for the task - one male, one female. I do need some old garb, though...anyone have anything that is beyond repair for a guy and gal? I have a design in mind for the gibbet that will fold up fairly nicely for shipping so the stuff doesn't have to go freight. The Bucky and female skeleton (who cost me far more than the Bucky!) can just be folded and packed the way you receive them for easy shipping. Capt. Sterling Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Actually the cage isn't so much a cage but a series of iron bands placed about the body.... a whole lot easier to transport unless you plan to take your skeletons completely apart... "I being shot through the left cheek, the bullet striking away great part of my upper jaw, and several teeth which dropt down the deck where I fell... I was forced to write what I would say to prevent the loss of blood, and because of the pain I suffered by speaking."~ Woodes Rogers Crewe of the Archangel http://jcsterlingcptarchang.wix.com/creweofthearchangel# http://creweofthearchangel.wordpress.com/
Misson Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 The design I had in mind is several (6 or 8) pieces of 3/4" wide strips of 16 (or 20 ga. if I can get away with it) that fold up sort of like those paper wedding bells. Each band will be slightly smaller than the previous with a hammered piece for a pivot at the top and bottom. Then I plan to age it. (Heck, I may just leave it outside for a week.) Yes, it might be somewhat complicated, but what can I say? It's the engineer in me... hurricane Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 That's a great design concept Mission. Capt. Sterling Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Here... if it helps... I believe Blackjohn has another original on his site... I shall ask if I cannot pyrate it here... Red-Handed Jill Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 One of the TO7S pirates has made a gibbet out of wood and plastic strips. It looks very realistic and is fairly light. Let me know if you'd like me to ask him about it. And bucky skins cover a multitude of sins - Jack and I always buy fourth quality buckys and have had good luck with them. I recommend painting the skins with wood stain.
Diosa De Cancion Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Oh not to fret dear Lady, the scenario will very much rely on the "locals" that live and work in the Fort area. We hope to tie all together so everyone gets their "moment in the spotlight!" Several locals will be leading people from the Fort down to the beach during the appropriate times... and several "arguments" will be settle in the Fort amongst them that be shipwrecked and also between the shipwrecked and the locals... after all we VERY MUCH still want those battles to continue... The map is a much needed item... Fayma should print it up when Master Studley is finished with it along with a schedule for handouts to be given to the spectators. A large edition should also be posted at a center point for them in the fort and them in the camp, where any conflicts or necessary changes can be quickly posted as well for all to see.... If one is concerned that the folks may skip out on purchasing a ticket at the fort and just make their way down to the shipwreck camp, we could have the camp there as well, contained with someone there on the "gate" as well, with a stamped hand, showing whether or not a ticket has been purchased... as to caged skeletons, since they seem to be such a hit, I would suggest a total of four then... one in the fort entrance and three others strategically placed through out the grounds... maybe we could make a hide and seek type of game out of them for the kids....they had an excellent questionnaire that was given to the kids at Paynetown... they had to talk to many of us in order to answer the questions and then receive a small prize... Ah, wish I could volunteer my time to help out in some of that, but I barely found time to leave my area the whole fest(except when I was being shackled) ...Sadly, I was only able to make it out to the careening camp once..... I must say though, the more you guys bring into the fort to tie the two areas together, the better a look I get at what you are doing. :) I just mainly wanted to toss that comment out there about the ticketing to make sure that people go into the fort gate and hand over their money to the fest organizers. I know the kind of money they put out for this thing, and I just want to make sure they get as much as possible back on their investment. After all, while we're having fun, the whole goal of this thing is to make $$$ for the fort and keep it looking great and open for us to play in. Lily Alexander Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 Before all these wonderful ideas get lost in the shuffle, I've edited the original post to reflect what is needed and who is volunteering for said project. I hate to say it, but PIP 08 is a long way away. If you volunteer for a project many people will be depending on you to get the project done. If you volunteer for a project and it can't be completed or circumstances prevent you from getting the project to PIP, please speak up asap so others can step up and get it there. If I mistakenly have you signed up for a project, now and in the future, or you would like to be added and I miss it, please pm me and I will make the appropriate corrections. As to tying the two together... well we have an entire year to work that out... the more we can, the more fun it will be for all of us... and the comment about the tickets/$$$ is well appreciated... I am sure it is something we can work out for the benefit of the fort... for without her, we have no place to prey... I mean play... Misson Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 The gibbet I have in mind looks more like this: http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale...s/dd_gibbet.jpg or this: Of course, being as this was the age of make what you need, many designs probably existed. The ones Capt. Sterling show would certainly contain the skeleton better. Commodore Swab Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Has there been any thought given to spreading the word more? Perhaps something as simple as some people in costume talking it up at the Pirate Soul museum where the free shuttle was running from?
Harry Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Vintagesailor, we plan on putting pyrates aboard the shuttle to the fort as well to talk up the event. hurricane Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I had a great time entertaining on the bus. Red-Handed Jill Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Here's the gibbet I was talking about. In this picture it's on a stand so it can be wheeled around, but at Ojai, it was hanging from a frame attached to a tree.

ScarlettJai Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 That looks awsome Red Handed Jill. I've also had great results with bucky lids. Another option to staining is air brushing. Bloody hell, if we have something like this, I'd consider climbin' in fer awhile meself. It'd be great fun to harass the crowd, scare the kids, and beg fer me life from it. Commodore Swab Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I happen to know someone in Key Largo that is capable of doing a presentation of Mary Read and could time it between shuttle runs. I don't know if it is possible to use the space in front of the Pirate Soul museum or not.
hurricane Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Good idea. The fort has a Mary Read and Anne Bonny at the festival already. Perhaps they could start there before heading back to the fort so visitors can take the shuttle back and see them in action. -- Hurricane -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. Diosa De Cancion Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Or better yet..... As it is currently Anne and Mary are dragged down Duval to the fort from the area of Capt Tony's. It's only another block to pirate soul, so I don't see why we can't be dragged from pirate soul to the fort. I don't mind wearing the shackles a little longer....I get used to them after a while...and I am sure Anne wouldn't mind either.... :) I even have some ideas where we could have started at the museum...have the red coats find us, shackle us, and drag us away...... By they way, we also already have a Anne & Mary presentation we are going to be doing at the fort after the trial and throughout the weekend this coming year. Consider that checked off the list :) Diosa De Cancion aka Mary Read www.iammaryread.com
Lily Alexander Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 Sorry all, I don't mean to sound like a tyrant, all of your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated but can we please try to keep this thread for special effects. Marketing, scenario's and other such topics would be better suited for the PIP 08 thread. Jack Roberts Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 So in regards to the secondary "hits" (meaning when shoot a cannon moments later you have a ball of dirt shoot in the air.) Does anyone have any experience with that? I could try to see if I have any contacts in the industry and see what they say. I'm sure we could come up with something.
