JohnnyTarr Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I got to go out sailing this past weekend. I was on a crew of three on a 27'er. I am new to sailing these bigger boats and it was a lot of fun. I got to hoist the main and work the helm. When it came time to tack the Captain let me steer. I ran the turn and he and the other crew worked the jib. When we finished the Captain said that that was done so well that I must be Blackbeard reborn. I have to say that I loved that. Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.
Misson Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I was sailing with Red-Handed Jill and her crew last month and the captain let me steer their craft. He said I was better off sitting in the front of the boat. Red-Handed Jill Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 You were helming under REALLY challenging conditions. Pretty much everyone but Bob would be better off on the foredeck.
Red Cat Jenny Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Jill,. what size, type of boat would you suggest one begins to learn to sail on..besides the obvious.. What in your experienced opinion makes a good Captain? Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.... Her reputation was her livelihood. I'm a pirate, love. By nature and by choice! My inner voice sometimes has an accent! My wont? A delicious rip in time...
Misson Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I'm no expert, but a one person cat worked for me. (I understand they're less likely to tip over with twin hulls.) (Bob actually said I could continue to steer if I wanted to, I was just goofing around when I posted that. I thought you'd find it funny.)
