michaelsbagley Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 In trying to do some more searching, I found this blog (dubious source), the writer of the blog seems to date the below cypher to the mid 1700s, but believes it is likely datable to the early 1700s. Mission Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Any objection to combing this and the other two topics? A suggested title that covers everything would be good, too. (Or you could combine them. It's easy to do.) I like combining all this stuff from the past because then everything is easier to access. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
William Brand Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 Please do. How about this? "Bale Seals, Company Emblems, Logos, Maker's marks, & Trade Symbols of the Period"
Mission Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Well, I tried, but like Simbakka said... Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
michaelsbagley Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Some topic necromancy, as this has been on my mind a lot for a possible small project I will likely never get around to... But I found the below linked item, family business ran from mid-17th century through to the 19th century. So who can say which end of those 200 years this merchant's mark is from. New Netherland Institute
Mission Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 Bump ahead of all the 'Goodbye Pub' threads. (This is a great topic.) Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
Stynky Tudor Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 I'm looking to noodle around on some bale mark designs. Unfortunately over time this thread has lost some of the graphic examples - if you got 'em please share 'em!
