MorganTyre Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Were coins the only... well... coin of the realm or were any printed currency's available in the GAoP? If so, does anyone know of any good online scans?
Fox Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Paper money was being introduced during the GAoP. Massachusetts Bay Colony led the way and printed notes in 1690. The Bank of England was also set up during the GAoP and started printing bank notes. I don't know of any online scans for paper money this early (loads of Rev War era stuff), but Kass sells Mass. Bay bank-note repros. Also, the South Sea Company printed £100 share certificates which were, in effect, printed money. I am currently working on a decent reproduction. Of course, they're worthless if you're basing your portrayal after the Company crash... I'm desperately trying to find a decent copy of an early Bank of England note, but I'm not sure if it's going to be legal to reproduce it without COPY stamped in big letters across the middle.
