The most striking feature is a pyrate republic consisting of a miles-wide raft of ships, some of them hundreds of years old. Cant find the thing, nor the author. off to the tippling house Z Drop a kitten six feet, and she grins... Drop an elephant six feet, and ya gots yerself a mess ta clean up.... The actual title of the book is "The Scar" , to wit: The Scar by China Mieville Publisher: Del Rey; (June 25, 2002) ISBN: 0345444388 Lest ye gets the idea this is a romance novel, China Mieville is male, british, shaved, earringed, and looks more like a punked out Mr. Clean than Dorothy Lamore. The book is fascinating, an alternative Earth with multiple races and at its center a vast floating pirate city called ARMADA which has been at sea for literally millenia, a gigantic raft of taken ships.
