Capt. Bo of the WTF co. Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 The title says it mostly. I like my half leggins /gaiters for all my period impressions. Combined with my garter they helps me to keep my stockin's up and keep them from getting ruined in one weekend. I'm rough on stuff and good stockin's can add up. I may have missed this topic in Patricks collection of threads, so could someone please advise? thanx! Bo
Capt. Bo of the WTF co. Posted August 29, 2007 Author Posted August 29, 2007 Well, I'm going ahead anyway. Made some hemp canvas oilskin with boiled linseed oil out of an old hippie pullover hoodie type thing I found in a rummage sale. I'm going to make the gaiters over the long weekend. Some dates would be appreciated. Thanx.
Quartermaster James Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Hey Bo, how did these turn out? I'm looking at making some gaiters myself soon.
callenish gunner Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I made some oilcloth sailor's watch shirts and the period records for those showed around 1695 from what I read on a French site
Capt. Bo of the WTF co. Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 I didn't know about modern boiled linseed oil and how to reduce it and add the japan dryer. Short answer is, I ruined a good hemp garment. Learned a valueable lesson though. Bo
