Rats
On Thursday August 2nd a small detachment from the crew of the Archangel landed on the Simmon's Island (parkway) for the 10th annual Pike River Event. Though normally a buck skinner event, it was rumored the infamous Great Lakes River Pirates were to arrive in force. An opportunity of which the pirate-hunting Crew of the Archangel could not resist! By 11:00 pm Saturday morning near a shanty tavern known as Tyburn's Last Drop, the rest of the crew had arrived and assisted in an attack against the River Pirates. And so was the start of my absolute favorite reenactment weekend ever!! Though the usual assortment of hawk throws and contests were offered near the main camp.... On a secluded area of pines near the beach, the weekend included a daily Hustings trial, an auction for indentured servants and also a mutiny led by the vile Mad Dog and his henchmen! The images will speak for themselves, so look to next year my friends!! I have never had more fun with a better group of people! Here's to you all and I'd also like to offer up a prayer for Captain McCrary of the River Pirates, who was injured during Sunday morning's storm. Godspeed and a quick recovery Sir! Rats No rest for the wicked! Wait a minute... that's me?!
CrazyCholeBlack
Ahh yes, quite the event as always. The Great Lakes River Pirates were there in force, along with 3 of our ship. Between an attempted canoe theft, the storm, the near flooding of the pirate city and Captain Brian's injuries there was never a dull moment. It even made the front page of the local news today with an inside article in the Sunday edition. http://www.kenoshanews.com/ The news also has a gallery including great shots of our cannon crew, manning the Tanturm to row out to the Pirata de Lago and the ship's under sail. http://www.kenoshanews.com/web_extra/index...alleryId=788209 My personal favorite is the series with the ships in the background as they make their valiant escape. I also found these shots of the crew hauling in II on Sunday & the girls playing in "quick sand" http://www.flickr.com/photos/8500952@N05/page4/ After hours Saturday night Widow Black's coffeehouse in pirate city hosted a music fest with Three Pints Gone & Brigands Foley . Where else could two mandolins, two guitars, a violin, a cello, bodhran and spoons play together with countless singers. Sadly I was so busy most of the weekend, cooking (spotted dick was a hit) and talking to visitors about everything from sewing to coffee history to children's toys to women's issues in the 18th century that I hardly got out of camp. Of course I wouldn't have it any other way! Here's to next year! "If part of the goods be plundered by a pirate the proprietor or shipmaster is not entitled to any contribution." Cheeky Actress
Great shots there Rats! Your beloved did a splendid job of it. The jury/indentured servant auction was a great hit. Lots of people stayed after to ask questions and stayed about for the "Angry Crew" event. I must also thank Master March for my fetters. They fit well...too well, I might add! My husband saw the bruising on my wrists Monday morning and asked me..."What the heck do you guys do at these events!?" Now at least I have pictures to show him what we were doing and that it wasn't an odd game of period correct twister! Again, the kids really made the auction and the crowd really got involved with the bidding! Cheeky Member of "The Forsaken"

Capt. Sterling
Now talk about totally devoted... Maddogge's face is covered in sand because he decided to die with gusto, face down on the ground. I was forced to write what I would say to prevent the loss of blood, and because of the pain I suffered by speaking."~ Woodes Rogers Crewe of the Archangel http://jcsterlingcptarchang.wix.com/creweofthearchangel# http://creweofthearchangel.wordpress.com/
Capt. Sterling
Looks like it was a grand event ........ Aye it was! We all had a really great time and have been invited back and promised our little track of prime real estate again! At this event, location, location, location, really did make a HUGE difference... nothing like walking out of the tent and each time thinking wow, this place IS perfect. Cheeky Actress
cheeky in chains ....mmmmmmm oops!!! sorry my mind went on a mini excursion there LOL Callenish! Ya, not something that I would want to be doing for the entire event – that’s for sure...especially when I was helping with the cooking. To help solicit the “Widow’s Court/Indentured Servant Auction,” Croaker and Carl were kind enough to ‘escort’ me about the grounds. I must admit there were a lot of confused and curious looks from those who passed by until they inquired about my state. Matty Bottles
After that picture show, the anticipation of camping with you folks is building to nigh-intolerable levels. "The time was when ships passing one another at sea backed their topsails and had a 'gam,' and on parting fired guns; but those good old days have gone. People have hardly time nowadays to speak even on the broad ocean, where news is news, and as for a salute of guns, they cannot afford the powder. There are no poetry-enshrined freighters on the sea now; it is a prosy life when we have no time to bid one another good morning." - Capt.
