But what makes you think that the silks were flat back in the GAoP?

Hold on...trying to find the artical when the Huguenots started to refine their silk making process during the late 17th century and when 'metal' was added to the mix.

Silk Velvet

Try that...

Its under Upholstery.

Well lookee there... hmmm get a sample... upholstery grade may just stand up by itself.... due to the fact that folks are intended to sit on it... this may be some pretty heavy duty stuff...

Ummm, what do you mean by "flat backed"? I'm a bit lost.

Sorry meaning flat not shiny... not flat backed...

ottoman silk

Oi GoF would the ottoman pass for your grosgrain silk?

I plan on getting some swatches if I can. I will definitely post a report if I make it there. It's all dependent on whether or not I get out early tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

I am still looking for that article about silk manufacturing in the late 1600s.

(Sigh), Perhaps I’m not being very clear with my terminology.

Perhaps chargeable silk would be best way to describe what I am thinking of. This type of silk has a nice luster because of the way it is made and takes on a nice sheen when it captures the light. It is not slippery like acetate. I think GAoP did have chargeable silk, but will have to double check on this.

Ottomon is a little "wider" with the ribs.... it looks a little more like corduroy.

"Faile" is a little thinner, but usuable IMHO.

Here is a site that has lots of interesting silks....
