Captain Jim
Recently attended Event in Bradenton, FL. Below is the newspaper copy and the pictures published the next day. (05/18/07 Sarasota Herald-Tribune Staff Photo by Nina Greipel) Myakka City residents Jim, and Patti McGavic explain the historic artifact of a steel boardingaxe, made between 1760 and 1820, to their five-year-old son Morgan at Friday's South Florida Museum opening night of the "Pirates! Florida's East Coast Pirates... Scoundrels, Scalawags and Treasure." Exhibit which officially opens Saturday, May 19 and runs through August 19. The McGavic family frequently attend pirate festivals. Don Maitz was there as many of his paintings were on display. Several were so new that they weren't even dry. One was of Braze and Louie Lambie back to back about to duel on the beach. Another was of Mark Heiman of Pyrate Pots and Jeff McKay of Captain Jack's Pirate Hats. Both of those will be in the upcomming 2008 Maitz calendar. Couldn't find the picture of Don, also published that day. As for the museum display, most of the artifacts were post-GAoP and mostly dealt with Florida east coast pyracy, a lot of which concerned St. Augustine. My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around...
