CaptCat Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Does anyone know where I might find examples of letters of marque? Some books I have discuss what they are and their significance for particular govt's and privateers in history, but they do not provide actual texts and so forth. I want to see examples. Thanks! Cookie Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Try www.piratedocuments.com/index.html (I hope this link still works). They make Letters od Marque based on historical doctuments. They do a good job at them to. You also might want to try www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Garden/5213/marque2.htm.

Coastie04 Posted April 6, 2003 Posted April 6, 2003 Another site to look at is http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/lennon/897/ There is a great picture of Captain Kidd's actual letter of marque-the one that was mysteriously "missing" during his trial. It's great if you want to get a feel for what they actually looked like.
