  1. Here's something I wonder about. I often sing with a group that raises money for local charities. We always pay for our sheet music, but we don't consider performace fees. Are we violating fair-use clauses? This is a particularly senstive issue for me since I plan on doing a song at our next fundraiser that was co-written by my congressman.

  2. Being a man of science, my gastronomical renaissance began when I started watching, "Good Eats," by Alton Brown. I also reccomend buying a copy of "The Joy of Cooking." It can take you from boiling water to haute cuisine. Treat the recipes as a starting point; don't be afraid to substitute and add things that you think will be tastey.

  3. Alas, my freezer is stuffed with my wife's organic-soy chicken-flavored patties and the like. I never thought of canning, though. Thanks for the ideas.

  4. I have WAY too many zucchini, crookneck squash and mini-pumpkins. I have made zuke pasta sauce, various squash cassaroles, roasted pumpkins, and gnocchi with spinach and yellow squash sauce. I am running out of ideas. HELP!

  5. Without a doubt, it was Errol Flynn. Growing up in the early days of TV, old movies were used to fill up air time. My masculine role models were Errol Flyn and Cary Grant. (Forget John Wane and his sissy walk.) If I have half the bavado of Errol and a quarter of Cary's suave, yo soy muy macho.

  6. For me, it's as close as I can get to time-travel. The eighteenth century is a time period that has always resonated with me. During the day, I enjoy interacting with the public, especially kids. At night, I enjoy siting around the fire with old and new freinds. I also enjoy a good sword fight.

I also love the sea and had the dream as a kid to sail with Jaques Cousteau on the Calypso. That led me to study science, and that's been my bread and butter most of my life. If you want to go to sea, join the merchant marine, or a fishing fleet, or become one of those guys that sails boats for people from one place to another. Modern piracy is not a good job choice-- Modern weapons in the hands of the coast guard or navy would ensure you'd have a very short career.

  7. sorry fellas never been to texas but they cant possibly have anything on our skeeters here in tidewater been "buggin" our ancestors since columbus...the f-22s at langley afb have to have an armed escort till they get movin...

I must agree. After going barefoot in the area for a weekend, my ankles looked like they belonged to a plague victem. I still bear the scars after a year in frozen northern waters. I'm surprised I don't have encephalitis.
