  1. Love the store. I love the jewelry nice work. Sipping her rum out of tea cup."Its Jamaican tea"

I have 2 questions: I have to make holes in coins. I got a steel hole punch that does thinner metals. What would you use to drill thicker metal coins. I purchased a lot of foreign coins for 5.00 on EBAY. I was told drill and dremel tool. Any other suggestions that won't kill my wrist.

How easy was it to do the Etsy store any pros and cons we need to know about? Other than the evil paypal.

  2. Funny story about rum cake. This happened about 5 years ago still funny to me.

In my circle of friends our friend John every celebration or BBQ he would bring Rum Cake. There we sword fighting to get the last piece, he doesn't skimp on the rum. This Labor Day BBQ, he made a confession, well this rum cake has a little rum because I ran out by sampling to make sure its good for the cake. We gave him all kinds of grief because of "lack of rum cake" we called it. Someone from the BBQ tastes it and says" I can't eat anymore it has too much rum." Yet we spent a good hour tormenting John for not putting enough in.

Moral of the story make sure when you make rum cake and the usual sampling the rum(which is not hard to do), to put at least some in the cake

  3. When you sell something paypal charges a fee. So I add it in to the price of the item or add a bit more for shipping. As for purchasing and selling with it. No problems.

I may have to think of ETSY myself in the near future

  5. I have a question for the ladies that wear these gypsy "skirts" thingies with the dangling coins on them. Now those things have to catch just about every piece of cloth that gets near them so I'm asking if you all understand this.

This weekend at the con I was in the main bar during a pirates charles set. Many pirates were packed into the place and dancing was plentiful, mostly by ladies wearing this gypsy attire. I squeeze by one lady and my vest got caught on a coin and pulled the lady back toward me as we walked in opposite directions. She shot me the dirtiest, meanest look I have seen in a long time and had this disgusted look on her face. When I tried to explain quickly over loud music that I was caught on her skirt and not trying to be a dirty pirate the..... (starts with a B ) spun around like I was just the scum of the earth.

Now I know this has to happen all the time, but do all you ladies immediately think there's some nasty guy just trying to pull you close for snuggle times or something? I felt kinda bad about it but what was a drunk pirate to do?

A lot of the mass produced coin scarves now have crappy sharp edges. The stitching of coins is usually crappy half snag and other half fall off after 1 wearing. I don't wear coin scarves normally I like the stealth factor of beaded ones.

But hey you bumped into her it was an accident. Her issue if she got pissed.Be glad something else didn't caught that would really hurt!

It happened to me (but not by a pirate at a Ren fair a few years back)I laughed about it and have a story to tell everyone. like now.

  7. I get pretty much annoyed with stupid people and those who have no common sense. MY NYC attitude is out be warned.

People who smoke right outside the door there is plenty of room AWAY from the front door. So I get a procession line of smoke. Step a few feet to the side there's plenty of room trust me.

When I am at crosswalk is it UNNECESSARY to ride so close to the curb when making a turn, I don't know if you are going to drive on the sidewalk. you might as well. CT is the only place I know(in all my travels) that does this. Why haven't got a clue.

When I have the WALK light I have right of way, you WILL wait until I get across, you aren't in that much of hurry. Its called a red light for a reason. Pedestrians have the right of way at a designated crosswalk pg 15 of the CT DMV driving manual.

Red light means STOP Green light means GO- Not the opposite stop racing for a light that is already red and watch the blender flush when light turns green. A city street is not a Nascar race track.

    Crackberries-no explanation needed.

Drivers on cellphone and crackberries-no explanation needed. Pay attention to the road

I hate drama(work, friends, family kinds) I am not a producer of a TV show I don't want to hear it or care. Its called life deal with it. Stop complaining about it here's some cheese for your whine.

  8. I feel ya! I got wrongfully terminated. long ugly drama. Lets just that after 12 years with the company it had to end. So i'm unemployed, trying to collect un-employment. But i have a hearing on Monday because they are fighting a lousy $519.00 a month. Lucky my hubby has a good job. In retail its horrible, because I live of the hedge fund pirates. When my well off-clients don't spend money its bad. I have a job interview on Friday, but with all the over-qualified responses(how can you be overqualified in operating a cash register?)I have hope that I will get the job. Its bad all over

  9. As I'm from NYC but now live in New England. Right now its about 46 degrees which is odd. But then again it could snow tomorrow. I nevr know what to wear, but fall foliage when leaves change is amazing. I just hate the fact people here don't like my "its New England its cold and is snows get used to it attitude". If you don't like it move to San Diego or Florida. And always beware of yellow snow. It ain't natural color of snow.

  10. The one I liked they repeated yesterday was Modern Marvels "Pirate Tech". Which I found much more informative.

A lot of them pirate documentaries seem to repeat themselves, especially if you already have knowledge of pirates already, skip facts or don't want too much information for a 1 hour show. They do that with anything related with History. What was also fun was Discovery Channels "Mythbusters" Pirate myths.

  11. Then again these are the same people with "Nipplegate" with Janet Jackson.

too sexual huh? I saw the ad then again they didn't show a cucumber.

Hey what ever floats their boat. If vegetables is their thing. I'm keeping my vegetables away from PETA, they grow on farms in large quantities close together. Then when they are ripe and pick them, put them in crates and ship them off.

I'd say that's cruelty to vegetables

  12. Well it snowed then rained then got an icy crunchy mess. Then rain and still rain, sleet and slush. Lucky it didn't ice up. Or it would be real fun driving home on I95. Apparently Ice Melt is an invention people try not to use. They plow the roads not the sidewalks.

then again I live in New England its normal this time of year, I still don't have to like it.

Also these people can't drive on I95. I saw one them new small cars(reminds me of bumper cars on Coney Island) Did you know they don't do well on an icy hill going up the exit ramp? And what made my morning commute complete was ,I saw a woman who decides to run across the black ice asphalt parking lot in thin stiletto heels. Can we say stupid wench You'll fall. Well guess what she did fall. In the parking lot. Wear boots in this weather. I may have repeated myself but I'm not an Ice Pirate. :(

It was rainy and slushy but I'm at home warm.

  13. I did you can watch the epsiode on discover channels website. I saw the episode. They found a French Pirate ship forgot the name. They got the ships bell and one cannon. I got to watch next episode if they find gold or silver.

I think the show has potential.

  14. incidently do the same proticals when selling jewelry need to occur for items you collect and make yourself?

for example, rocks you collect and then cut and polish

    salty

I would because you took the time to find them and polish them and make it pretty. why not? It also depends on what rocks you collected. You can always research the price of rocks or gems online for a ballbark what to charge.

If you are making jewelry with clay have you considered with working with "art clay" in jewelry? fire mountain gems sells it. My friend uses it and swears by it. I also dabble in fimo/polymer clay. With these clays when dabbling I highly recommend separate trays and cheap toaster oven from wal-mart to cook the polymer clay. I don't want them fumes in my regular oven I bake in, the brownies would taste funny. It is pretty easy to work with. Nothing will beat actual "clay pottery" These clays are easier to work with for jewelry.

  15. I'm not Blackbead, I hope I can help. And i love your work!

Here's my advice. You can sell stuff as sets or separate depending on price of actual beads/findings, some more expensive beads like Venetian(are Venetian beads PC let me know) and crystals (I like to use) so the cost of the price of the piece reflects that. If you are buying beads lets say Joannes or Michael's you can price them less. But I also look in stores/websites/ebay to see how much similar stuff costs. You also include labor and mark it up by 75%(I do) I have nothing under $10.00 and nothing over $50.00 because of beads & materials I use. Also consider your clientele and how you market yourself to that clientele.(I am hoping for an etsy store in the future) what helped me figure it out, was a book" Marketing and Selling your jewelery by Viki Lareau." The formula beads X labor + markup. Never sell yourself short, If you think your piece is worth $40.00 then sell it for that. What you buy in stores is total markup. You all want to be competitive with the market. My clientele is sci-fi conventions,ren-faires,belly dancers and soon, my own Pirate line of jewelry. Now to find time for my grand plan..
