The movie is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman (sp?). Personally I love the guys writing, and have followed his work from his early days writing comics/graphic novels right through his earlier novels and have at this point read most of his major works (which I highly recomend).
For me, this is one of the films I've been most anticipating this summer.
I'm right there with you. I've been hoping they'd make this into a movie since I read it. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Geoffrey Rush's directorial debut. Cool.
Say, Iron Bess, does that grain of salt come with a margarita?
-
Even if it is based on a faked picture, it's a nice costume, and Sithcamaro did a great job replicating it. I bet he could sell it for a pretty penny if he had a mind to.

Really lovely, what I heard of it! Congratulations

I just got our flintlock water pistols. They're awesome, and NICE range for a water pistol. Since I can't have a replica of Barbossa's gun, this is close enough, and I don't feel the least bit guilty giving it to the little pirate to play with

Not Jacks dad, Will's dad.
Ah, sorry, my mistake My little pirate has been on and on about Jack's Dad today
-
Nice of Dad to stay on and help crew the ship
I believe Dad had a ship of his own, he is a Captain, after all.

Absolutely!

I've come to appreciate as I got older, there's always a little place you can go to escape from the crowds, if only for a few minutes.
I doubt that will be the case any longer....
I don't need a lot of room, just a few minutes where I'm not being jostled, pushed, or run over by a stroller (or those danged skate shoe things)
I noticed more of those little hidden hideaways when I was in WDW last year, than I remembered from DCA, but I'm hoping to make the comparison this September

You can petition NetFlix? How do you do that?
From the Netflix site, go to Contact Us, then down to Title Request.
They already have The Great Ships: Pirate Ships available not only on DVD, but also for 'immediate viewing', and several of the Modern Marvels, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Wow, Mr. Hand, the trousers are wonderful! Did you use a pattern, and if so, which one?
I bought an Alter Years pattern, planning on sewing this weekend, but having never made pants before, I was completely confused by the pattern.

Cradle of the Deep by Joan Lowell ... another one of my out-of-print finds on ebay. I read this when I was in high school and loved it then. It's Ms. Lowell's true story of growing up on a whaler with just her father. It was originally published in 1929.

I was hugely disappointed to find out we don't GET History International, only the History Channel. I even had Tivo set up to record it, only to find 3 hours of black screen.
Ah well, I guess I'll have to petition Netflix to offer the DVDs.

Speaking as a Mom of a 5-year-old pirate in the making (he's going to be a pirate and a paleontologist when he grows up ), I love that they turned Tom Sawyer's Island into Pirate Island. He got to see and play on Tom Sawyer's Island in WDW, so this will be a fun addition for him. The island was meant as a huge play area, a place where parents and kids alike could get a break from rides and shows and just play. I suspect that's not going to change much.
As a travel agent, it's one of the things I recommend to parents .
That's one of the cool things about Disneyland that I've come to appreciate as I got older, there's always a little place you can go to escape from the crowds, if only for a few minutes.

That boy will have serious psychological repercussions from this..."And then...my mom posted photos of me naked in a pirate hat on the internet!"
That's nuthin' ... we have an 8x10 of it hanging in our "hall of infamy" ... wait until he starts bringing girlfriends home

One I saved up for and bought from Ravenswood Leather:

It wasn't cheap! However, I wear it often, I think it's my favorite.
Ooh, pricey, but I LOVE that Saberist's Bodice. I'm coveting their baldrics too, me captain may be getting one of those for Christmas

Not so much on the lamp, but HAD to have the water pistols.

No luck here, either, but you might try googling "wall stickers" or "wallies". There are some wonderful pirate wall murals (basically, wallpaper). Pricey, but as much as I hate wallpaper, I'd seriously consider spending the money.
