  1. I have a friend in Walhalla, SC willing and able to make me a glazed earthware cup/tankard in any style I want for a decent price. What I need to know is exactly WHAT an appropriate shape would be. I don't have access to reliable documentation right now and on-line searches have failed to turn up reliable info. So, I turn to the members of this board for recommendations!
  2. I was talking (well chat texting) Red Wake and wondered who was what part of the crew. He suggested I make a thread with that question, so as everyone could say (my interpretation).
  3. Dumb question time . . . Where is the Messages link now?
  4. I know when it first popped up, the "new posts" was where it used to be, but didn't seem to work. I was on that late (it was like 12 or 1 eastern daylight time). I trust Stynky is figuring out an alternative and/or fix.
  5. I don't want to be off-kilt-er . . . That might embareass someone . . .
  6. What I have started doing is to get into the offending lane and keep formation with the through lane. I've gotten MANY "thumbs up" for doing than and only once had to wait a few cars to get over. Usually, the one next to me of immediately behind it lest me right in, then the other BLOCK the jerks I blocked. Twice, someone has "buzzed" my be on the median REALLY POed, only to have the cop at whatever is closing the lane pull them over and EVERYONE passed them as that car sat on the side of the road with a cop or 2 by the window. Oh, and truckers often to the same thing. It helps traffic move better, as often the backup is people where the lane ends stopping completely to let in the jerks that pass everyone.
  7. My prayers are with Brandin, your family, and all your and his friends. I know that is very hard. We are here for you.
  8. So . . . By modern terms of "Decent," not. By standards of seamen of the time: - If on the receiving end of an attack, no. That is unless you WANTED to join them, then it was a godsend (if you survived to join). - If in running into one other times, depends greatly upon who, when, and other circumstances.
  9. This is 9 hour up I-26, then I-75 for me. I might be able to pull this off.
  10. (Picked JUST for Foxe . . . a fake flag based on the design of an anachronistic one.)
  11. Thanks for comments on mine and I just hope to be "on par" with the other "Cap't Twill" types . . . MadL, looks good. Just a thought. As I have dealt with real measurements compared to pant sizes, due to making my kilts . . . Pant sizes are often 4 inches larger than what they say for where they ride. So, 36" jeans actually have a 40" waist. It could be that where you get your pants are using "normal" pants sizes as their sizing basis, rather than actual measurements. For folks making "to order" custom clothing, such is a question: to advertise based on common used sizes or actual measurements? I have started to ask.
  12. I finally deliver on picts for my shirt and sleeveless jacket. What makes me proud is that the sleeveless jacket is made from less than a yard total of a scrap remnant from 96 District Storehouse. Due to all the issues with the fabric, holes and a long add cut (that happened to be the entire length of the shoulder cut-out), I was only charged $3 for the material. The scraps were tiny and only from the neck, shoulders, and side darts. The front and rear are the FULL width of the scrap I got. It is also my FIRST attempt at button holes . . . I'm happy with how they turned out. The tricorn is intentionally as simple and minimalist as possible. I rounded off the edge and sewed up the sides, no edging on purpose. So, here goes: The seven buttons and shape of the upper part of the shoulder opening are based directly upon several of the Penicuik illustrations from the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. I am also making this kit for Jacobite reenacting. I have found that they allow freer shoulder movement without moving the body at high upward arm extension. Edit: looking at the back (which I can't see), I see that I need a "dart" back there and to split the bottom to hang better.
  13. Very true. Classic is a matter of perspective. Classic can be: -movie that stands the test of time as "good" in its genre. -movie that is old --- "Old" is a moving target determined by many factors. Does no sound mean "classic?" Black and white/gray tones? 1950s and older? Anything before 1980? 19-anything? I lean to "classic" meaning stands the moving of time and lasts within its genre . . . -The younger "old fogie," Tartan Jack
  14. I want to see Buckaroo Banzai, I haven't seen that in YEARS!
  15. Star Trek was good, it was a "reboot" of Star Trek that actually FIT the continuity and logic of the series, giving a reason to restart and a reason for differences (Vulcans now rare, wiping out much of a generation of Star Fleet personnel, inc. those that later may have become characters we know) and a different flow of events. I REALLY liked Up, as it fits a certain period genre (1930s adventure films and Sci Fi), with a modern context and twist. It was poignant and my kids LOVED it. The whole "squirrel" thing is now a running joke. -SQUIRREL! I still want to see Transformers 2 and Public Enemies. Though, thus far, little of what I am aware of make me want to see them on big-screen, which takes a LOT of effort for me to get to from where I live now. I can wait to either see or buy them on DVD.
  16. I wonder if the tents were heavy weight canvas and shrunken before hand om Charleston. Oh, and I showed up for family vacation on Monday, just in time to see the ships and boats leave from Sullivan's Island. GREAT sight! - I had forgotten that it was that weekend till Sunday night, or I would have come several days earlier . . .
  17. Does it have to be a pint? -I'll take SCOTCH!
