next thing ya know...we will be all made to ...wrap our swords in duct tape and styrafoam...and wear saftey vests...with eye protection...... wot? you say??......they didnt have them back then??....neither did they have flash guards!?? i have been a looong time advocate for saftey EDUCATION.....in stead of saftey devices.......with one you are teaching someone How to be safe...what to look for...and how to fix it.....before someone gets hurt.... with the other....you teach em nothing.....those who trust..(in this example)....flash guards...will not pay attention to distance...or accuracy....THATS when someone gets hurt...... most folks i heard spout off about ....saftey....are really saying...i dont trust you.....if you dont trust the man next to ya.....then EDUCATE EM.....dont just put a saftey device...between ya. maybe there should be I.Q. tests before every battle???......na...thats not period either. saftey is allways important...and never....circumvented...nor am i advocating that it should.....just that their are OTHER METHODS to being safe.....and one shouldnt be made more important than the other....just because....someone...who dosent trust ya...says so. the ONLY time i wa ever hurt at an event.....was with a SAFTEY PROP GUN....?!?!?! the muzel was blocked...it was made for point-blank firing......the report and flash...went out thru the sides.......and you guessed it......the saftey officer....said to the newbie....use this one...its a saftey gun......who proceeded to come up from behind...fired in line.....and blew out my eardrum.....i now have permanentnerve damage in my right ear.....from a SAFTEY device. Education on saftey...will always be safer than a device....period. but enough of my ranting....i will go back to the shadoes.....skamper, skamper.....

i took it has more in revelry....most i have seen(not all)....seem to be in a drunken mob...or otherwise imbibing mood.....and it seems that i have often...while imbibing ...end up wearring it seemingly backwards....

Just to make sure that everyone understands this, I do have them folded over into the bucket or typical hollywood "pirate boot" fashion, and that's what refuses to stay in place, the bucket itself keeps falling down. they are supposed too....if they are made right.... when mounted...their was often a tie or strap to keep em above the knees...(in case of brambles and the like).....otherwise folded down to fall where they may....if round the ancles...so be it....makes em real...instead of..."finished" and matching. i have a pair for my Captain of the Marines impression....and often wear them askewed like...one all the way down...one half way up....where ever they are comfy....it shows that they are real and used for real intent.... instead of the more sewn in place look. ...but if ya must.....i have known people to stick a 2 litre soda-pop bottle in there boots(cut in half length ways) to help them keep em up....(wild west/german ww2).....tho i never had too....been blessed with scottish stout calves i have.... ...i generall have the opposite problem!!

"Bucket Boots" are GAoP period correct....as long as your near a horse that is.....and they were MADE to be pulled up and over your knee(scrawny or not)...and then fold down...into the bucket....for ease in walking when not mounted...often is quite the fashion statement to have them folded down round the ancles..... otherwise...the general consensus is.....if not a horseman....then shoes were more the norm...cheaper...less material...and more easily aquired...as quite fahionable. but if ya truly need to wear em up high....then try suspenders

what i heard was confirmed by your statements...... i do feel sorry for your perdicament.....all the good you were attempting as been in vain with this latest action. from someone who is from the midwest(dekalb county ill)....now in Detroit (still midwest)....and has been re-enacting over 20 years now....i fully understand the up hill battle that Pyracy events in large has before it...trying to get some sembelance of orginization....trying to get us out of the laughing stoks...or looked down upon....and to attempt a truly historical presentaions...of one of the most turbulent and misunderstood times of our history..... unfornately your actions has hurt us all...as well as the sword instance eralier.....once we get into the public eye....we are truly icons...and are looked up upon by the little ones....they want to emulate us...they want to be us.....even tho we are playin the bad guy...and no matter what our personal morals are at home...behind closed doors....once we don our apparel...its like we are doning our CAPE.....we then are held to a different set of morals....a different set of rules....we are no longer living for just us...whith just our needs and wants....but are now living evryones dreams....and most always uphold that responsibilty...... we are each of us...in this proffesion/hobby for a host of different reasons...each with different goals and agendas...but we most always strive...to never hinder their passions. i truly hope you find your way in this .... for i see a difficult path before you. sincerly, Methusala Aluitious d'Dogge M.A.d'Dogge crewe of the Archangel
