  4. The problem being that if there had been an accident, it could have gotten firing banned from other events, even though it had nothing to do with any of us. Such things make event promoters and sponsors very paranoid about lawsuits..... >>>> Cascabel

  10. Wow, I'm amazed this place is still in existance !!!! ( Assuming it's the same place I remember visiting as a kid back in the 1950's ) It was pretty crude and unimpressive back then, as I remember. Nice to hear they are still operational. >>>>> Cascabel
  11. Hummmmm... in Pyrat's posted pic it looks like there is a trigger guard plus the knuckle guard. Perhaps Cascabel can enlighten us on how common this was. I wonder if it is an aid to use the pistol to parry sword thrusts???? Jas. Hook Many years ago, I saw one like that in an antique weapons dealer's catalog (Robert Abels). Never saw another one, so I suspect it was not common. I helped Braze make one for his pistol. It came out very nice, actually nicer than the one in the movie. I'm sure it was intended to parry sword cuts. I can see no other reason for it. >>>>> Cascabel
  12. When I used to make stuff out of horn, it seems I remember goat horn having much less of a hollow section than cow horn. I used goat horn when I needed solid sections. Might be what you need for making fids...... >>>> Cascabel
  13. You will also find that real black powder is considerably cheaper that the substitute stuff !! >>>>> Cascabel
  14. Really first class looking stuff, Harbormaster !!! How is it obtaining black powder in PI ? Easy, difficullt, pricey, etc. ? >>>>> Cascabel
  15. I wrote an in-depth 3 part series of articles for No Quarter Given magazine a few years ago, that tells you everything you need to know about the use and care of flintlocks. I have reprints available if you are interested. PM me if you want a copy. >>>> Cascabel
  16. It's steel, but I'm not certain what the alloy is. Something fairly exotic I'm sure, being a jet engine compressor blade. >>>>> Cascabel
  17. .........and where might this "Fisherman's Village" be, and when is the event ??
  18. Just as a matter of curiosity, why are you making a non operational flintlock from scratch ? It's the same amount of work to make a functional one. Are there legal issues where you live ? >>>> Cascabel
  19. Smoothbore accuracy has a lot to do with the manner in which it is loaded. If loaded in the military fashion with a loose fitting ball, accuracy will be quite chancey, but if loaded with a tightly fitting patched ball, accuracy can be very good. Much of the poor accuracy stories come from the loose fitting ball situation using military muskets and pistols loaded "military style". Military expedient called for multiple shots and rapid re-loading, rather than careful aiming, thus the reason for a loose fit of the ball. Duelling was another matter entirely.
  20. I figured you were still among the living........ on account of you don't smell no worse than before !!! Nice to hear from ya....
  21. Just my interpretation of an appropriate shell guard design for a character known as "Dutch". I have no idea if there is "documentation" for it. There are lots of variations of shell guards, so I guess it's possible....... >>>>> Cascabel
  22. Thanks for the compliment !! I enjoyed the project.... >>>>> Cascabel
  23. The picture shows what appears to be something to pour liquids from, yet the description sounds more like what is usually called a "Betty Lamp". >>>>> Cascabel
