  1. Save the blade and trash the rest. Make an entirely new hilt in either brass or steel. Anything you do to the existing hilt will not hide it's origin. >>>> Cascabel
  2. Works better with the white lettering...... >>>> Cascabel
  3. For me, it's all about performing and entertaining the public. I try to give the public the pirate stereotype that they expect to see. If people feel like they have met a "real" pirate, then I have done my job. I try to stay in character when interacting with the patrons, but when the audience goes home, I go back to my air-conditioned room and relax. I enjoy the company of other re-enactors and exchanging ideas, but I have no interest in "immersion" or experiencing the 18th century after hours. I enjoy learning about the weapons clothing, and other artifacts of 18th century life in order to present a believeable character to the public. If the patrons have an enjoyable time, then the event survives for another year. If the patrons want to be educated, I can do that also, but most seem to prefer the entertainment aspects of an event. >>>>> Cascabel
  4. O.K....... For those of us that are not real sailors..................... Exactly what is a serving mallet, and how is it used ?? I thought it might be nice to have an explanation before this thread gets too far along !!! >>>>> Cascabel
  5. I'm thinking also that it may have been made out of a piece of pipe, rather than being a properly made real cannon barrel. >>>> Cascabel
  6. Kinda makes me want more info..... Cannons don't "just blow up" for no reason. In the pic, there is nothing left but the wheels. Makes me wonder about the load, construction of the piece, etc........ >>>>> Cascabel
  7. In your case, being in Europe, you would probably be better off ordering directly from Pedersoli. They are in Italy, Gardone, I believe. Depending on your location, it might be a good excuse to visit the factory...... >>>> Cascabel
  8. Hmmmmm...... When they said you had crabs, I thought they were talking about something else ..... My mistake...... Well done, Suh !!!! >>>>> Cascabel
  9. Here is a matched set of belt hooks that I made for a pair of fancy Queen Anne pistols. The anti-rotation pins are located in the rearward extensions of the mounting plates. >>>> Cascabel

  11. You can't see the pin until you remove the hook from the pistol. It protrudes from the back side, and is polished flush on the outside that is visible when the hook is mounted. >>>> Cascabel
  12. When I make them, I always include a pin to prevent rotation. The pin fits into a hole drilled for it in the sideplate. The old originals were made in this fashion. >>>>> Cascabel
  13. What makes the guy on the left a grenadier ? They all seem similarly equipped to me..... >>>> Cascabel
  14. I found the wig on ebay a couple of years ago. Got it for $2.00 !!!
  15. Thanks for the comment, Mitch !! I made my outfit myself here at home, and had hers made overseas.....
  16. I have seen these things available on ebay fairly often. Sometimes listed as "unknown cast iron device" or farm equipment. >>>> Cascabel
  17. Well, it's about time ye showed up !!! We missed ya.... I been wonderin' wot happened to ye. Scrape off the barnacles afore ye get comfortable !!! >>>> Cascabel
  18. Aye Cap'n, true enough.... I had actually considered going with the full-blown fop character, but couldn't quite wrap my head around some aspects of it. I figured if I did it once, I would have to do it every time I wore the outfit. Thanks for the comment !! >>>> Cascabel
  19. Cascabel joins the fop contingent...... I've been told I look like Louis XIV's lawyer !!!
