  4. Lilly’s eyes fluttered open briefly when she hear the sound of Jacob Reiley’s voice again; whispering to her as he pulled the blanket way to take a better look. “Reiley? It is you, ‘tis it not?” “Shh, keep still and quiet, Mistress. I have work to do.” She closed her eyes again as she felt his hand press upon the wound. The little black dog gave way to a growl as Lilly let out a moan. “Hush Mate!” Said MacGregor as he helped the dog off the bed. “The wound is deep and she has lost much blood.” The doctor pressed his hand to his forehead. “I’ll need you to hold her down as I tend to her wound.” MacGregor lent in closer to the good doctor. “Is she long of this earth?” The doctor’s eyes shifted back to MacGregor. “Aye, she is and with a prayer to our Heavenly Father, she will make it. Your Captain did a right smart thing in collecting me when he did.” He quickly opened several bottles. “Keep her still.” He whispered as he mixed the items together with pestle and mortar. As they slowly rolled her completely upon her stomach, Lilly turned towards the good doctor. “He’s dead…isn’t he?” Reiley’s face went pale at the question.
  5. LOL! Right you are Hurricane! It was many years ago when I performed at the Sterling Ren. Faire up in Oswego, NY. All the members of the staff had to take classes on proper speech of the time. So depending on your character and class status, your speech and diction fit your persona. Worth the 6 weeks of instruction!
  6. I fancy John Raven. Every time I hear the name Raven, I fancy it to be a girl's name.
  7. "Rest now, mistress. All will be well" he said as he took a seat upon a stool facing the door, a pistol upon his lap. Lilly laid quiet drifting in and out of sleep. The very idea of a man guarding the door with pistols drawn for the good of her protection made her smile. There are good men still about. She thought to herself. The little black dog nuzzled close to her side as she slept, as MacGregor wondered if a physician would arrive in time.

  9. Gee, perhaps we should ask "Cat" about airfare and destination charges to PIP? Though Delta and Continental have hubs in the southern states, they may not necessarily have the cheapest rates. About 14 to 21 days out from departure is more then enough time to book ‘low faire’. Price wars go on all the time, and hopefully, there will not be any over booking on outbound flights.
  10. Lilly stirred, her hand wandered to her face. The rustling of skirts and bed linen quickly drew the attention of the small black dog who laid content for his new friend to awake. With a soft low whimper the dog looked up at MacGregor as if calling the alarm. It was then MacGregor made his way to the bedside. “You are amongst friends now, Mistress. Captain MacCraige has sent for a doctor. Fear not.” Lilly’s eyes fluttered open. The dim light of the room made it hard to see. “I am parched.” She whispered, hand reaching out to MacGregor. He quickly poured a goblet of wine for her. “Here, slowly…slowly.” He whispered as she took the goblet to her lips. The little black dog barked, then spun in place, anticipating her acknowledgment of him. Soon her hand fell gently upon its’ head and back. “Yes, Mate.” She whispered as she pushed the goblet away from her lips. “You are a good Mate, indeed.” “Who found me?” Her voice still weak and soft to hear her above a whisper. “Captain MacCraige, Mistress. He, and of course, Mate here.” She closed her eyes and tried to draw a breath. “Did they catch him…the vile man that did this?” MacGregor shook his head no. “Who did this to you, Mistress?” She swallowed hard trying hard to hold back the tears of anger. “Hutchinson…Lord Lewis Hutchinson.”

  12. ^ Use to have a cat that opened doors by jumping at the door knob. < Real food sounds good about now (no more quick meals...wonder if Skittles still has some of the pulled pork left from this past weekend?) V What motivates you when you need to get something done...like, yesterday?
  13. One foot in the grave, my dear Captain...but let's see what happens
  14. A gentle stir came from a once lifeless form. The pain engulfed her body entirely. The suddenly sensation of feeling cold took her by surprise. There was no memory of how she came to being there nor if it was day or night. The light tone of whispering gathered in the corners of the dark shadows. Was she dead? Was she in hell? She tried to move but found that she could only stir lightly, hand and fingers only. When she tried to speak she found no voice, only the low sound of a moan. Her breath now escaped her. It was too painful to draw a deep breath. Once again, the low whispers continued to float back and forth in the room.
  15. Prayers of the sorrowful moment filling the room in whispered tone. Lilly knelt neatly in prayer soon found that her moment of private solitude quickly broke by the sudden sound of ripping flesh. Quickly, the sensation of a sharp pain surged through her body as she suddenly fell forward from her perch in prayer. She attempted to escape by crawling towards an open widow. As she looked up the light of day soon began to fade, as the light narrowed down a dark tunnel. She pushed her body aside in order to view her attacker. “I wish only to go home….” She whispered softly. Soon her body was still. Mister Hutchinson now had one more victim to his count.
  16. One can never be prepared for receiving grave news. Through the messenger may have tried his best to bring comfort in light of what had past this day, Lilly could only bare witness to the event which was now unfolding in front of her. She said nothing to Mister Hutchinson at first. Her face pale as she fought to find her breath. “Please, leave me.” She said, eyes cast to the floor. With the sounds of Mister Hutchinson’s footsteps leaving her side, the little room now seemed even smaller now. Lilly fell to her knees and pressed her hands together. “Oh, Dear Heavenly Father, I have heard the most dreaded words. Words which no woman, no mother, no wife would wish to hear. My very spirit is shattered. My very world is falling apart. I wish to fight, rebel and flee from this horrid reality and yet, I know that you see my pain, hear my prayers. Dear God, how angry and deserted I feel at this very moment. I seek your comfort in this moment. I beg you to grant me courage regardless of what the future hold for me now. Help me remember that there is some deeper meaning to all this and that my burdens will soon be lifted from me.” The room soon grew smaller as she was over come with grief.
  17. Lilly awoke very early that morning. Her sleep was troubled. Had it been the food or wine, she did not know. On this day, her path was made to return to England were she could once again be with her beloved boy and return to an easier life. Though she had lost her lover to another, she knew that life could not stop. She would go on and manager, some how, as she always did. Yet, she felt uneasiness in the air as if the world around her suddenly was off in rhythm and in timing. Yet, life indeed would now go on and what path she chose to take was of her own making. She dressed, ate a light meal within her bedchamber, then called the young servant boy to collect her trunk. She managed her way down stairs within the hour. There she was met by Mister Hutchinson. Dressed in black Dutch silk and holding a somber appearance, she addressed him in a quiet manner. “How now Mister Hutchinson, what ever is the matter?” With a deep bow and a very long pause in breath, he finally spoke. “Shall we speak somewhere quiet, Mistress? For there is something I must tell you.”
  18. The room became silent for the moment. “It was not my indention to up set you so, Mistress, ” said Mister Hutchinson. His eyes now showed pleading and need to be forgiven. Lilly once again looked at this strange man. “How odd men are.” She muttered as she took a sip of wine. “Your kind thinks little of the fairer sex unless it suits your own agenda. I presume you are married, sir?” Mister Hutchinson nodded. “Yes, I can tell this for your nature and your appearance says it is so.” She watched his reaction as he sat somewhat uncomfortable in his chair. “Why do you think so poorly of marriage, Mistress?” His question now flew straight into the very conscience of her soul. Lilly sat back for a moment and pondered the question. She knew in her heart that she would have given anything to marry her beloved Captain, yet fate and station would not have it. The blame of situation fell on all who were involved. God is a fickle creature. She thought to herself. He places his children upon this earth to do good, yet temptation beckons at every turn. Sin is ripe upon this earth and neither man nor woman is safe…not even from thyself. “I do not, Sir. Though, I feel some are not meant to marry and some make poor choices, ‘its all.” Mister Hutchinson placed several coins down upon the table as the maidservant came to collect the empty plates. “I must say that this had been a very interesting day, Mistress. Please forgive me, but I need to return to my plantation and its’ duties. But fear not. I shall be here first thing upon the morrow to assist you in finding a ship which is to set sail for England.” With a smile, he bowed and he left Lilly at the Three Crowns Inn.
  19. “Mistress?” Asked Mister Hutchinson as he collected his pipe and drew out his tobacco. “Are you wedded?” Lilly’s eyes shifted back to her host. Another strange and uncomfortable question. “You ask me if I am wedded? Such a question to ask! You know I have a son, yet you pry into my very decency.” “No harm was meant, good Mistress.” He said with an apologetic tone. “Marriage?! If marriage be such a blessed state, how comes it, may you say, that there are so few happy marriages, indeed.” “There are many a man who seek out such a thing, and what for? Comfort? Companionship? For pray, what do men propose to themselves in marriage? What qualifications do they look after in a spouse? What will she bring? Is their first enquiry to be how many acres or how much ready coin? They who marry for love, as they call it, find time to repent their rash folly, and are not long in being convinced, that whatever fine speeches might be made in the heat of passion, there could be no REAL KINDNESS between those who can agree to make each other miserable!” Mister Hutchinson sat slack jawed for the moment. “I am to assume that is a, No, Mistress?”

  21. The meal was enjoyable one. Lilly had gleaned many things from her years of ‘instruction’. One of them was the art of conversation. It was not that difficult to master. “Remember, men fancy themselves and their money. The two go hand and hand; therefore remember to bring the conversation around to them. They will never tire of the subject.” “Do you miss Scotland?” Lilly asked Mister Hutchinson as she poured another glass of beer for him. “Aye that I do. There are many things I miss about home that are sorely lacking here in Jamaica. I could do with a nice cold clean rain once in a while.” Lilly watched his smile become wider. “Damn heat can be most unbearable, don’t you think?” Then it was his turn to ask the questions. “Now how does a lady of your position and station come here to Port Royal?” The conversation between the two of them suddenly came to a halt. What was she to say? There were many here in Port Royal that knew too much of her tale already. She was not in the mood to enlighten one more soul. “A business transaction, nothing more.” She muttered as she took a final bite of her meal.
  22. Lilly had taken blessings for granted in the past. It was easy enough for someone to fall from one station and into another. But now she was hung in the balance. What would cause a person to fall from their haughty heights? It was easy enough and anyone with the misfortune could very likely be in her place. It could happen to anyone. Born in simple keep and held the station until the death of her father and mother. The threat of Newgate was always looming over her as she made sure not to be caught begging in certain areas of Covenant Gardens or Drury Lane. It was a dreadful time. Yet, she a mind of being a proper lady and with the help of her benefactor, the Empress, she was made into the thing that men long for. “What little talent there is between a proper Lady and a whore.” Lilly thought to herself. “Had it not been for greed and selfishness I would not be here. “Now, my lover casts me aside for a whelp of a pup and left alone in this God forsaken place.” It was then she turned to Mister Hutchinson who sat next to her at the table. “I shall send you the fare of my journey as soon as I land back in London. There are many who will assist me and once I am back upon the London stage you will see that..” “London stage?” Mister Hutchinson blurted out as he almost choked upon his beer. “Yes sir. You heard me correctly. I have performed before the King himself.” Mister Hutchinson’s manner soon grew quiet. “I am sorry, Mistress. I did not know that you were a Lady of quality.” With a sigh and a raised eyebrow she lifted her glass to her lips. “Yes, a Lady of quality, indeed. There are many here in Port Royal that do not think the way you do, Sir.”
