  1. Hey Callenish, That wouldn't be anywhere near Woolrich, PA would it? I know that's where my sister and I would get our wool for capes when we worked Sterling Ren Faire years ago. Can't beat 'em!
  2. Oh, what wonderful shots, BlackJohn. It looks as if everyone had a great time of it. Can't wait til this fall. Cheeky
  3. I know of a woman who is from IN (who I hope to see at Paynestown event). She is quite 'amble' and tall. She has always had a battle with her figure. At one Wild West event she won first prize for placing a serving tray upon herself, a bottle of whiskey and a full rock glass of the stuff! It was impressive to say the least.
  4. WOH.... I hadda pick-up an' put me eyeballs back in after that picture..... ....eyelets.... there were eyelets somewhere ..... hummm.... somehow I didn't notice....... Sorry about that Patrick. The grommets/eyelets have been covered. Yes, 'they' would be 'covered' by 'neckerchief, mantua and stomacher. The idea was to show everyone the cut of the stay and how they laid. Sorry if I may have cause someone to loose one's lunch!
  5. What nasty orange fence?! See, your good! Very lovely shot, indeed. We will have to make sure we get more of you and your little one at Pike River. Comments...suggestions? There is boning in the tabs, but I must have not made them long enough. And no...no digging in the hips. Yikes! Watch out people...she's on a roll!
  6. I will have no neck! Think of it this way...you'll have a place to put your mug!
  7. Pale pink wool sounds lovely! I must admit...had it not been for my twin answering a 'ton' of questions, I may have just shucked the idea all together. Now that the proto-types are out of the way...off to do the fancy demask!
  8. In the 1,000s?! Gosh, would have been a great time. Looking forward to November. Cheeky
  9. Thanks...getting a man's point of view is very helpful indeed. Do you like them? Got them this past winter and don't know what to do with them! Anyway...ladies...the sensation should feel like 'they' have been pushed in and up! Comments...suggestions?
  10. Thank you Patrick for your insight...always looking for better ways to improve on a theme...so to speak. I found out last night that a metal knitting needle works wonderful for poking holes.
  11. And now for something really scary! In this 94 degree heat, I decided to put on my new russet colored wool stays. I got a shelf!
  12. out of how many total? Last I counted "your" crew has done 4 events total in their 1 year of existence. (Don't you love statistics ) Four?! Really?! Okay...Lockhouse, RF2, POC3, Port Washington, MacTown? - Is this right? And thank you Chole for you words of encouragement. Always nice to hear kodos! BTW, lovely shot of you down near your name. Was that taken recently?
  13. How many stays? Pick a century No honestly, these are the first pair that I have actually made myself. I have about three (3) corsets from the mid-late 1880s (I do Wild West) and I have several other stays from the mid-to-late 1700s, which have been given to me by the Captain, my twin and such. I've always been somewhat 'gun shy' on trying to make such things. But my sister helped me out a lot with layout and shape, it's also good to know that she had a "professional corset maker' on speed dial when we hit a techincal question.
  14. ...the one example i recall vividly was on the shoulders of a laced sleeve doublet and the second piece i remember was an elaborately embroidered bodice done in a saffron silk. Thank you Callenish/Chole for your information. ...And thank you Captain Midnight for the compliment. but no one in my crew better be wearing fantasy garb unless they are attending a fantasy event... our goal is pc first, fantasy WAAAAYY after that... Captain, In regard to the stays I am currently working on...it is just that...a work in progress. Materials are seconds...scraps, if you will, which do fine in a pinch. Consider it a mock up or proto-type. Also, There have been several members of the crew who have asked me to 'dress' them in a pinch. Though we are less than a year old and hitting the ground running, items such as these stays will help out (depending on the person(s) in question - size and such). With everyone wanting to go to events, but don't have the time to sew...I'll help out where I can. I do agree that they not perfect (and when I mean perfect, I mean Period Correct), but I rather work on scraps and such then on high end material. My goal is to be Period Correct (as is the goal of our Crew), but sometimes, people have to go at there own pace. That's why Stays #2 are cut out and ready to go! Will post these when I am done...so we can compare the two.
  15. Really?! (Lilly whips her head about in the direction of callenish gunner.) Do tell Callenish! This would be a insightful bit of information. Was it the UK? If so, what region?
  16. Yes, of course Captain and we did state that grommets are NOT PC. With all do respect, this was my first run of a hand-drafted period stays. I do plan to make another set...something a bit more..well, better. However, these will be used for my indentured servant/diver persona. I will be doing a lot of 'physical' work in these; therefore,...I want to make sure I don't have a 'wardrobe malfunction’ while I’m dashing about. This pair of stays will be covered and will not be seen from the back.
  17. Yes...(hmmm) the use of grommets are NOT correct, of course...but they really do the job when going through several thick layers of wool. Also, they seem to hold up much better when lacing, I've had some 'hiccups' when just covering awl holes. They 'blow through' after time. Sorry no shot of me in them (yet). Hubby wasn't home when I took the shot.
  18. You know your a fabric whore when... When your master plan is to dedicated a room just for 'sewing' and you soon find out that the closets are not enough to hold the 'over-flowing' and now you have to use the spare room's closet. You know your a fabric whore when... You walk into the local fabric store and break into a cold sweat because you saw a sign that says, "Home Decor Fabrics - 50 to 75 percent off" (funny, I think this should also be noted in the addiction chat). You know your a fabric whore when... When your weekly laundry includes two extra loads because of fabric. Cheeky
  19. Tonies (or is it) Tonys - Broadway Awards Morning Black Syren
  20. Okay...this is my first attempt on making this type of period stays. I used the corset/stay generator and then modified the length/cut for late 17th century. The stays are made out of wool, lined with linen and finished with twill. I self-hemmed using the same wool. Making your own bias tape is not hard and it looks so much better! The corset is fully boned (full cane) with a wooden busk in the middle. As for the eyelets (working on this)...they will all be covered with embroidery thread to match.
  21. Looking through my 'collection' Captain, I found a very nice shot of you in your brown coat along side Master March. Here Black Syren...hope this give ye a better look. Cheeky
