Pirates of Paynetown Event - Southern Indiana
Cheeky Actress replied to historyfanatic's topic in August
Great event! Good public turn out both days. I just wish I could have stayed longer on Sunday to see the Great Battle! To all my crew mates - Bless you all for those who took part in such a grand event. Everyone pulled there weight and the laughing never stopped thanks to Maddogge, Matt and Pete! I only regret that I didn't have more time to walk about the grounds. I found myself making sure the fire was kept going - even ended up using one of my camp stools too, but that’s another story there - and taking preventative measures to make sure that no one dropped from the high temps those days. To those gracious ladies from the other encampment who stopped by, thank you for your kind welcome and words. It’s always nice to meet new and interesting people! Thank you Maddogge for taking the time to spend with us in more fanciful sword play. I’ll have to try out some of those new ‘pointers’ when I get the chance. I can still see Mary Diamond engaging herself as the aggressor hearing her charge forward at you screaming, “PLAY WITH ME! PLAY WITH ME!” And to Captain Sterling. What can I say...you die well, Sir! Hats off to the sword fighting and the hanging, Captain. I'll pull your legs anytime! I personally I would like to thank Jennifer and Nathan for extending such a grand welcome and making our crew feel right at home. The pot luck was a great idea and EVERYTHING was top notch! BTW, who made the wild rice and black eyed peas? I had to take an extra helping. I enjoyed Saturday night’s entertainment a lot! Everyone was in fine voice and I even got Matt and Maddogge to dance with me a bit! Again, thank you Nathan, Jennifer and the State Park organizers for letting us pyrates come and invade their town for a little while. Cheeky -
Oh, those belong to Rats. The Autem Mort, be Maggie and the little fair haired brownie be Morgan. Both were wonderful this past weekend. Morgan was there always wanting to help where she could. As you can see, she quite an expert of lacing stays now!

a sad note about one of our own ...Silkie
Cheeky Actress replied to callenish gunner's topic in Beyond Pyracy
Oh Silkie, you have my deepest sympathy. I'll pray that you find peace and hope that the memories of your father comfort you. -
Well...he complained that he didn't care for my 'Scouse'....and them th'ar are fighting words! Just kidding. Carl is a blast and willing to be 'spot on' for the camera no matter what!

^ That would be blood pudding! My grandmother use to make it when we came to visit. If we didn’t have it for breakfast, she’d serve it for dinner. Just the name being spoken made my stomach turn and I can still remember the dinner table antics I would pull to get out of eating it. Now, I can eat it with bake beans or potatoes. < Hagias is another story…. V Passing the question along.

LOL Callenish! Ya, not something that I would want to be doing for the entire event – that’s for sure...especially when I was helping with the cooking. To help solicit the “Widow’s Court/Indentured Servant Auction,” Croaker and Carl were kind enough to ‘escort’ me about the grounds. I must admit there were a lot of confused and curious looks from those who passed by until they inquired about my state.

Great shots there Rats! Your beloved did a splendid job of it. The jury/indentured servant auction was a great hit. Lots of people stayed after to ask questions and stayed about for the "Angry Crew" event. I must also thank Master March for my fetters. They fit well...too well, I might add! My husband saw the bruising on my wrists Monday morning and asked me..."What the heck do you guys do at these events!?" Now at least I have pictures to show him what we were doing and that it wasn't an odd game of period correct twister! Again, the kids really made the auction and the crowd really got involved with the bidding! Cheeky

Ransom said: As a kid, did you ever try to dress like a character in your favorite movie? ^ - What do you mean, "As a kid" Ranson? Still do it sometimes - especially when babysitting. <Kids are so creative when they are young... V Favorite childhood star?

^Well, it's been a while but it has happened. It was one of my first 'movie themed' outfits I created way back in the early 1990s. I decided that I was going to make a ‘cat suit’ from Bat Returns. Well, if you’ve never worked with PVC material before, it can be a learning experience! After a month of design, drafting and assembling I was ready to wear it out on Halloween. Thought I wasn’t the only Cat Woman walking about that evening, I was the only one in an outfit made of ‘rain coat’ material. Had a great time that evening, but on the way back to the parking garage as I went to take a seat in my car the back seam of my cat suit bottom blew out! Thank God it happened at the end of the night! < Lesson Learned: Always test-run a new outfit – take it for a drive BEFORE an event! V Passing on the question...

This is a wonderful book. I remember reading it back in the '80s. The book, "Perfume" (Patrick Suskind) is a great mix of history, mystery and horror. The main character - Jean-Baptiste Grenouille discovers his unique ability to isolate smells even though he has none of his own. I wonder how it compares to the book? Well, if you say you liked it Rats it is worth renting. Cheeky

Call me crazy, but in several cultures and in various burial rites, you put coins on your eyes when you’ve passed away. No chance of that happening any time soon I hope?!

What are the quarters for Black Syren? Doing a clip art search and trying to repair my hand-held mixer. Might as well purchase a new one...the inside is toast! Cheeky

The bite of the drink burned her throat. With a gracious nod, Mistress Lilly watched the woman smile lightly as she left to attend to the bar. Lilly’s eyes darted about the tavern. Faces of nameless sort filled the room, while some did stare back others found themselves deep in drink. What was she going to do now? She wondered. Everything she had in her life gone. She quickly sat up straight has the bowl of stew was placed in front of her by the woman who offered her drink. “Bread?” Said the the woman has she handed her over half a loaf. With a nod Lilly took it. “Sad looking you are? What’s the matter…husband left you for a sweet heart?” With a quivering lip, Lilly paused for a brief moment and then in one deep breath began to cry like an alley cat!

I think this 'story' should be kept until the campfire story time. That's the best time to tell it! Does have a good ending though! Cheeky

Yay! I would go and Cheeky we have some good ones here from the websites, have not been yet and no one is brave enough to go with me..may have to go it alone. Oh come now Black Syren...no one has come forth to hold your hand and walk into some place dark and spooky with you! I'm you're gal...but you have to promise to hold my hand, sign a sweet tune and as for running...heck, I'll drag you if you can't run! Cheeky Oh, and if you really want to hear a good story. Just ask me about the time M.A. Dogge and I were reenacting at a State Run Village in Cedar Rapids, IA a couple of years back. I got a great story to tell you!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Hair or hanks of hair (both real and fake) can be found at any beauty supply store. I've made 'rats' for such things and they can be braided to fit what you need. Also, the real hair can be colored to match, so I've been told, though I haven't tried it. Check out Sally's if you have one in your area. Cheeky

URGENT Pike's River & Paynetown
Cheeky Actress replied to Capt. Sterling's topic in Crew of Archangel
(Lilly's head whips around)...they do?!?! Well, our friend - Jeff ...(okay...ya, ANOTHER ONE) has several of his own. I'm not sure why he may be without one for that weekend. Yet, depending upon the event the organizers may not have the grounds available for such a thing. We would have to ask Rats about such things. Cheeky
