  1. Hmmm, you may have too! We have very little room for sitting down at the Ball last year!
  2. The Saturday night party is going to be a "historical jam" that is hosted by the Battlefield Balladeers (civil war music). Any TALENTED person can play a song, sing a group song, play the bag pipes, harp, whatever. Guitarists should bring their own instrument. This will happen during the Balladeers breaks. So bring your best and show off your talent! This should make the party more diverse and interesting! All of this music will be going on in conjunction with a cash bar and tables and chairs!
  3. We won't have the finalized performance / seminar schedule until about a month before the Fest date (either Fest). This is because the performers are reenactors like you and me and their "real life" schedules are constantly changing. We do have tentative schedules for both Fests with GREAT performers and speakers, but we always wait to make sure that it is carved in stone before going public. Thank you for being patient with us on this matter. Cheeky
  4. Lads & Lasses - Reenactor Fest III - Gettysburg is offering a two hour bus tour of the Gettysburg battlefield on the Saturday. The bus would pick everybody up at the hotel and drop them off there 2 hours later. It will seat 40-45 passengers. The cost will be about $20 a person. Let's hear from you! If you are interested, please email reenactorfest@aol.com for additional information.
  5. Hello Hawkyns, So much to do...so little time! Been busy with events and such - so do forgive me for not doing more in the RAIDs page under "RFIII". Here is the main page site for Reeneactor Fest. Reenactor Fest Once there look at the medallion half way down on the main site page that says, “Reenactor Fest 3 – Gettysburg”. Click on it and you will go directly to the information page regarding dates, admission and lodgings. Additional information about ‘updates’ can be found further down the page in “NEWS”. Just click on the most current topic. If you want to read more about what has been going on (under other dates) just click on “MORE”. This will fill you in on what has been going on. Hope this helps. If not, PM me and I will try to help you the best I can. Cheeky
  6. Oh what fun! Thank you for the link to the photos, Lady B. Good times! Great People....that's what it's all about! Cheeky
  7. My Dear Nathanael, 'Tis one of the great joys of reenacting...one always seems to acquire something on these outings! It's great to be a pyrate! Granted, I think it was the heat that may have caused us to be a bit addle-minded that weekend. But rest assure we always seem to make sure that even thing gets back to their rightful owner. Oh, and by the way Nathaneal...did anyone find our ship? Looks like our navigator, Captain Pete forgot to weigh anchor…again. Big Brig…can’t miss it! If you find it, please call 555-1212…Thank you.
  8. Please correct me if I am wrong Rats, but wasn't your main idea to get a wonderful 'melting pot' of pyratical-hearted people together for fun and frolic?!
  9. Wow! Cool to know! More interesting information! Cheeky
  10. Oh Yes! 'Tis a wonderful idea...eh, um...court or country dance, Rats?
  11. Fear Not, Duchess...this is an event to meet, greet, and enjoy. Rats is a very clever critter indeed! BTW, If this is the location I think he is chatting about, there is a hotel right across the street! Cheeky
  12. I use to work "Ren Faire" back in the day. Those selected would go through a six week class of basic 'education' regarding tone, diction, and english dialects; not only regional, but also class status (remember, we are talking roughly 1580s). It was quite the task, but it was a well valued experience to say the least. I just recently pulled out these books again and started to listen to them again. Granted, there are a few things that need to be modified, but they are quite helpful. I have several books and CDs that can help with such things, including Thees, Thous, and such. Anyone interested....please PM me. Cheeky
  13. I cannot thank you enough for the contact info, Nathanael! Gee, Mary...isn't it the way it always goes?! Lets see, Wine, cider, blacksmithing, swords from POTC movie (1)... YA! We've just got to contact them now! Cheeky
  14. Such a wonderful idea there, Rats. I love the idea. There is nothing like a social gathering to get people excited about the following year's events - not to mention meeting great folks and having a wonderful time of it! I know that this idea is still in the 'baby stages' - but any idea on when and where? Cheeky
  15. (Gee, got to find a picture of me 'WITHOUT' that thumping device!) In all honesty, the majority of women folk at the Paynetown event were dressed in 1700s or later. I even saw a lady dressed in Federal/Empire attire on Sunday. Therefore, we did have a little leeway in the timeline for this event. I did bring my rust coloured Mantua, but didn’t wear it. Due to the high temperatures as Mary stated, we minimized our dress for safety/health. All the ladies I saw that day did wear shifts, skirts, (perhaps an apron), stockings, stays, and hat/cap (if they would stay on) – the basics. Some reenacting groups may be lucky enough to have one woman acting as Chatelaine - supplying period correct clothing for new comers, which really does help out in a pinch, yet the point of this thread is to get the basics done as inexpensively as possible, but still be correct. It can be done - education and time is what it takes. As for the lovely shot Iron Bess threw up – you can’t get more ‘period correct’ than that, can you?!
  16. Mary, I must say that you have a great perceptiveness regarding this matter. I cannot speak for everyone, of course, but there is something about putting on the 'right articles of clothing' to make one behave towards the proper mind set/time period/persona. I've been doing "Bess" the cook/serving maid these last few weekends I've almost forgotten how to carry myself as 'the Mistress'! Hopefully it will not take too long with switch back to the proper mind set. Just put me in some silk and paint my face...I'll be my old self soon enough.
  17. I have to say that this group was most kind! The gent with the red mutton chops had an extraordinary singing voice and the woman with the spool in hand was very sweet. They were so much fun during the hanging too!
  18. I have to agree with you there, Ransom. She has quite the soft spoken manner about herself - yet, this can be used to her advantage when she is plotting her next 'cunning plan'. I've have never once seen her 'drop' her composure even in the most intense situations. Class act all the way.... (Sigh)...time to take a few pointers from her!
  19. Oh thank you Ransom! What a great idea. I have a nephew who would really enjoy stuff like this! Also, with Halloween around the corner, I have a group of friends that love to get together every year to party! Some of this stuff would make a very cool party/Halloween gift! Cheeky
  20. I'm putting in my two-cents...for what it is worth. I just completed my first set of stays over a month ago. Was I apprehensive about doing stays? Hell Ya! But I also understood that without the right underpinnings, the over all ‘look’ of my clothing would not lay correctly. I did a simple set of stays out of left over wool from my mantua, only did two layers – that would be the lining and the fashion fabric, added a wooden busk and boned it using a sewing machine to make the channels. How long did it take me? I would have to say from start to finish, about 1 week. It is a big feeling of accomplishment to look at them as say, “What I thought was impossible IS possible.” They weren’t hard, just time consuming. I’ve done several other time periods that rely highly on the correct undergarments and I must say that with out them your over all appearance will suffer immensely! Now that I know how to make ‘em I am in the process of making my second stays. This time, adding additional layers and using higher end fabric.
  21. Just been looking at the video we took of the event - So cool! I wish I had a better system of 'transfering' from 8mm to DVD. In college we had the best editing equipment to take out stuff and do voice/music overs....Just think - I could be doing YouTube! Gosh, now who do we know that has THAT ability?! (whistling as I look at the rat in the corner). Cheeky
  22. Cheeky, what are you ... um... holding in this picture? Hmmm...that?! Well, I picked that up on our many travels, Captain. Do you not remember our trip to Asia? Oh, very well...it's a vintage potato masher Jamie brought with her. Came in handy as a 'thumping' device during the raid. Cheeky
  23. Wonderful job michaelsbagley! I love the colour on you! "What bucket boots?!" Do you plan to wear that beautiful collection in Toronto?
  24. Okay...the little one belongs to Captain Pete. The Big one belongs to Jeff and Diane R. I will have to call Jamie and let her know you have it. Diane wanted to use it for a Wild West event next weekend.... Cheeky
  25. Okay...just in case anyone had seen this... I had three (3) camp benches...two (2) white ones and one (1) brown one. One burned up ( )...ya, still trying to figure out how the heck that happened?! So, I have a the frame of the white one that burned and my brown one...does anyone know what happened to the other white one?! BTW, Rats...I have your brown socks and a pair of black shoes (size 6 - I think) that belong to ya. Piro - Cheeky
