  1. Just came back from the Tampa show - lots of old stuff this time - a nice change of pace and a terrific show. The 8 hour tailgate party didn't hurt none either...
I listened to it live on Radio Margaritaville. Excellent show. Love all the old stuff getting mixed in.

I may see Jimmy in Chicago also as my bil works security for alot of the area concerts.

And of course half the reason we go is for the tailgating.

  2. Just curious. I"m a major Jimmy Buffett fan. Contemplating trying to buy some overpriced tix right now.

    A Pirate Looks At Forty

    By: Jimmy Buffett

    1974

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call

Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall

You've seen it all, you've seen it all

Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam

And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen

Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream

Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late

The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder

I'm an over-forty victim of fate

Arriving too late, arriving too late

I've done a bit of smugglin', I've run my share of grass

I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast

Never meant to last, never meant to last

And I have been drunk now for over two weeks

I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks

But I got stop wishin', got to go fishin'

    Down to rock bottom again

Just a few friends, just a few friends

    (instrumental)

I go for younger women, lived with several awhile

Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day

    Still could manage to smile

Just takes a while, just takes a while

Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found

My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around

I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

    Coda:

I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

  3. Well there've been a number of views but nobody can help. I'm sorry if I was being presumptious by posting this here when I haven't been on the boards for a few months. I was hoping one of ye worked at the new museum in Key West or in some way had some knowledge. I have attempted to use their e-mail on the web site but it didn't go thru. Hopefully if this sits for a bit while it works its way down the boards somebody might have me answer.

Again thank you for your time.

    Tina

  4. How does it work? does one book downloaded use up a large amount of hard drive space. I would like to look at this some more but don't want to tie up tons of room on the pc. It appears that you can't download a chapter at a time, read, delete and get the next chapter.

  5. A fellow parrothead here. Not be going to Tamp but I'm holding my breath for tix sales here in NJ. Camden tix are extremely difficult to come by. We will have somebody online somebody on the phone and someone in line at ticketmaster. Hopefully we'll get at least a pair.

  6. It's been quite some time but I used to be a regular here. I'm from Southern New Jersey. Several members were helping me in my attempt to bring a pirate fest to my neck of the woods. Mr. Pat Croce, owner of Pirate Soul in Key West and major pirate buff has a local connection in my town. He is opening a second Pirate Soul store here. I would like to get an email to him or the appropriate person in his organization describing the festival and asking for assistance in getting our town to allow this fest to take place. No financial assistance, strictly some help in brainstorming. I could approach him when i see him in town taking exercise but that seems innappropriate. I would just like an address or email that I would know would reach the right person. Thank you if you can be of help.

By the by, now that I have a new pc I'll be popping in periodically. I see some familiar names and many new ones. Greetings from the salty sea in New Jersey.

PS- if you feel uncomfortable giving me the address I could give you my email or phone number to pass on to the right person. Then the ball would be in their court to contact me. I'm trying to be a big aggressive tracking down this info, but also don't want to be rude or assume a very busy person would be willing to speak with me.

  7. Can anybody tell me how to take an image and make it into an avatar. If I find something in the public domain how do I make it into an avatar. If I need to put the image somewhere, how do I do this for free? If I need to shrink the image how do I do this?

    Thanks guys.

  8. with school closed, and more snow and ice coming for the next 2 days I've got some time on my hands. So in between painting the family room I'll be here. Post a pirate question, any kind, factual, pop, fiction, etc. The next person answers and posts a new question. Here goes

Where was Blackbeard the pirate born?

  9. Damn, I got on here too late, missed the history channel show. Maybe it will run again. I'll be going to see what they do with the book. There are alot of O'Brian fans out there looking for authenticity. i would love to see some of the original book language, as I feel it will help me with the book reading, in the same way that watching Hamlet helped me with Shakespeare. I suspect if we were familiar with the language of the time, we would know that they, like us, didn't always use the correct terms. They had common use words which were considered interchangeable by the masses. And on the ships there could be men with varying levels of sea time as well.

  10. If there was something there it could be gone, rotted away paper items. Also, the poor excavation methods could have damaged what was once a dry storage area. I've read of the Knights of Templar theory, along with the Holy Grail myth. Sceptical I am. I too agree that pirates lived in the moment, and spent as they got. The few who were smart enough to save were smart enough to put it in a legal investment.

However, if even half of the excavators of the spot are telling the truth, something is or was there. There are better web sites where they show stones with writing carved in them, I believe in code. It does surprise me that with all of the current technology, nobody has been able to get in there yet.

  11. I love the Hornblower series, and can't wait for more. It's obvious that the Grace O'Mally book would be a top choice for me. Thanks much for the updates. I'm preparing a Christmas wish list, which is largely books.
