  1. Well... I´m a bit lazy this time... so let´s just see what the wiki says about LARP: What is LARP?

It gives quite a good overview about the different games called LARP.

Me, I prefer to play "history orientated" (plots/setting/clothing) without fantasy elements, magic and stuff. So someone created a new word for it: Reenlarpment.

There are P&P based, upleveling/uppowering rulesysrems... but I don´t like them.

We have kind of guidelines, almost without written rules... it simply says:

"YOU CAN WHAT YOU CAN (PORTRAY)"

You have to convince the others by acting and playing (and of course clothing!) that what you are doing effects something ... and not because you have written skills on a little piece of paper :o

Sorry for putting this thread so way off topic!

  2. oh what does LARP mean?

    Live Action Role Playing........

Kinda like D&D, but instead of rolling dice, you get to hit other people using boffer swords and such....

Mhmm... doesn´t sound much like the hobby I´m doing. If it´s of interest I´ll explain it later... but right know I´m too tired to write something wise.

  3. Thank you!

I´m very pleased with the "common look"... even if most of the LARP- pirates wouldn´t recognize me as a sailor without a cocked hat ;)

The clothing is all made by me... except the striped slops... I wasn´t able to sew much in the past few weeks, so I´ve ordered a pair of slops, trousers and a shirt from Kass to complete my outfit for a huge event I´m going to in two weeks... so if you folks want some really good stuff and won´t make it yourself: Get it from Reconstructing History... it´s worth every single cent you pay for it!

And no, I´m not on her paylist ;)

  4. This is how I started with a pirate LARP character a few years ago:

And this is my latest LARP character, Mr. Weland Pommery:

Unfortunately it started to rain so my wife couldn´t make more pictures from me in my entire outfit.

With some work on a few details I guess I will easily fit in an Living History or Reenactment event... but I prefer to do some Reenlarpment ;)

  5. ok im back. tho i technically left the site i did keep an eye on this discussion and was surprised to see how much thought people put into it.i fully expected to be flamed and the topic dropped.tattoos seemed to be a very unpopular thing here (on the other boards as well). i do know how the boards work, i just see alot of up-turned noses at non-historically accurate stuff on all the boards. so i will just watch and learn about stuff but keep my cotton/rayon blend machine-sewn costumes to myself  B)

and i guess not everyone here is so intolerant. some need to learn to take things less seriously tho. not getting a tattoo because of historical accuracy is just wierd.and tho i have 27 mostly large tattoos i still keep them covered when im in garb.its easy

Here´s a topic in "Pirate Pop" about ink... seems to be very unpopular around the folks here...so please don´t go into this "I have lots of inks/ I´m an outsider" - thing... it won´t work.

And again: Captain Twill is about historical accuracy, evidences and scientific researches.

If you post your pictures from your garb in this section of the pub, you will get comments about the accuracy of your stuff...

If you post your pictures in other sections of the pub, the same people, who have so up-turned noses will compliment you about the good work you´ve made with your costume... at least if it´s good B)

You can learn a lot from the folks arround here if you wish and ask them... most of the times you will get a reasonable answer... maybe not what you want to hear, but reasonable... so it´s just about how you deal with it.

  6. "is it just a "Sailor Jerry oldschool ink" from the last century or is this theme older?"

You asked the question mate, just giving you the answer,

and I would say that it would be something that you need to know,

before you paste something on your skin that your brain isn't comfortable with.

I didn´t said that I want it on my skin.

I´m very pleased with my fully inked upper arms and shoulders (everything black & grey). The theme would not fit into the concept

Why would someone not a Christian WANT to use a cross or a cross based symbol?

Because it looks cool? It´s the same like with other themes or styles...temporary fashion. The look is more important than the symbolism. There are many folks out there who almost don´t know nothing about the themes they have on their skin.

I'm going to disagree with Kass here (  ), temporarily hiding tattoos that aren't authentic is the easiest thing in the world (easier that hiding fillings), and visible tattoos can ruin a very good outfit.

Yupp! When I´m on an event I never show my tatoos.

  7. Speeking of tatoos and sailors: What is the origin of this one?

    glaubeliebehoffnung2.gif

    believe, love, faith

Is it just a "Sailor Jerry oldschool ink" from the last century or is this theme older?

  8. Great Jacket!

Cant hardly wait to get my patterns from kass and beginn with my own jackets... I will make one from yellow (mustard colour) wool and one from hemp canvas found a shop on german ebay who sells hemp canvas for a really good price

Is this kind of collar an included option in the pattern?

  9. @blackjohn: I´ll explain it...

Because of my weight I´ve started with (109 Kg) I have 26 points a day to eat from. Food like fruits and vegs have no points. For things like a glass of coke or a chocolatebar you can almost count half of the points you have for the day. If you´re doing exercises it will be rewarded... when I make a long walk with my dog (1,5 h) I get 2 points plus. The thing is... you can eat everything but the amount varies.

I was on the weighing machine today... I´m by 105,9 kg for now.

  10. There is a cecipe called "Pemmikan". It´s a mix from dried meat, fat, spices and dried berrys.

There are a lot of (heated) discussions on the Muzzleloading forum about Pemicin ... Pemmikan......however it's spelled..... but none of them mention using any spices.....

I will check my books if I mixed something up.

  11. One possible origin for Chili can be found by the Native Americans: There is a cecipe called "Pemmikan". It´s a mix from dried meat, fat, spices and dried berrys.

I guess Chili is post GAop. The oldest recorded recipe I know of is from "Mrs. Owen's Cook Book" (1880). Another old recipe can be found in the "Manual for Army Cooks" (War Department Document #18), 1896.

But, despite all we have been taught about heavily spiced mediaeval dishes that used great amounts of spices to preserve, or even to cover that fact that the meat or fowl was actually putriyfing

That is one of many scientific assumptions... but still discussed.

Just use Google and you surely will find more.

  12. @Gof: Got the fabric today and it´s in real good condition! Took it in the washer and the shrinking was minimal.

What I´m gonna make? I definetely won´t use it for lining

I think the fabric is not so good for a shirt, cause the left side of the fabric is kind of abraded and fleecy (don´t know if these are the right words to describe it). I think I will make a sleeveless waistcoat out of it and then will see what else I can make with the rest...

    Bela

  13. Pyrates don't need a Board of Directors, or a buncha rules, just a place to find other Pyrates.......

Right! That was one of the prime reason I left one group which I was a former member of....discussing everything in it´s smallest detail... form a registered association... and forgetting about what really is important: To have fun and meet new pirates on events.

  14. I guess I´m a heavy smoker... up to 40 cigarettes a day. I´ve tried to smoke less, but it doesn´t work for me.

So what about the prices for a box in the US? In Germany for a box of no names about 4,5$ and 5,2$ for brands.
