  1. Just posting me two bits on the DVD, as I got it for Christmas. I've been waiting for the chance to watch AWE with subtitles, made it a bit easier to understand. Overall, and I never thought I'd say this, I really hope for a 4th now... First time I saw it I wasn't all that impressed, but after seeing it at home, I've really taken a shine to it! The first Pirates movie will always be the best in my mind, had the perfect combination of real/fantasy, but once they took the leap over the line of realism into insane fantasy with DMC; AWE became a fine addition. @ Lady Seahawke: kaita koto wo hotondo douchou shimasu. Minna, kono eiga wo jibun no you ni tanoshinda hou ga iinja nai, ne? Maa...boku mo saisho #2 & #3 wo mita toki, suki ja nakattandakedo, mireba miru hodo suki ni natta.
  2. Perhaps, for the sake of story, we could assume that it being a curse, they only feel unpleasant things. And thanks for the clarification on what Tia Dalma said before going to pieces!
  3. I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. It wasn't what I had hoped, but it wasn't what I feared either. Kind of a happy medium! Well worth the $5 ticket price. The 3 hours flew by for me, and I didn't want it to end. I'd have to also echo some other posters concerns with the graphic violence though. Every time someone gets their throat slit and their brains blown out, I repeat to myself in my head, "Disney movie." I'd also like to see less supernatural...like capnwilliam said. It seems that each installment has to surpass the previous one with regards to supernatural, and I preferred the subtle curse of the first movie to the extremes in this last one. Perhaps number 4, if there is one, will be a little more down to earth?
  4. I'd have to 2nd Bilgemunky, as fun as it might be to be on a crew with Jack, your life expectancy is awful short. Jack goes through more "redshirts" than a whole season of the original star trek. Not to mention, that Barbosa seems to have much better earning potential. That said, I'd have Barbosa for my captain, but I'd rather go drinking with Jack!
  5. Hope ye don't mind me jumpin' on to ask as well, but there were a couple parts where I wish the movie had had subtitles. ---Spoiler--- What did Tia Dalma/Calypso say after she was "released" and giant sized? I can barely understand her accent as it is, but her baritone giant voice was incomprehensible. Anyone know? ---Spoiler End--- Oh, and Jib, I have many of the same questions in my mind as you. However, I'd like to share my theory on Jack and Beckett's past relationship. Again, only my theory. Obviously, Jack was branded by Beckett, that much is safe to assume I think. From what I've read of pirate history, branding was rare (usually on the cheek or forehead, but I suppose arm would suffice in a kinder gentler world), and only used in cases where a death sentence was lifted. The brand was to serve as evidence of the lifted sentence so that anyone arresting him the next time would hang him. My guess is Beckett caught Jack, and for one reason or another his sentence was lifted and he was branded. My personal theory is that Jack did some egregious personal affront to Beckett and was caught, tried and the court branded him and sent him as a slave to Singapore rather than hang him. Jack escapes enslavement and goes a piratin' once more. This would also explain his, "Clearly you've never been to Singapore." line. It also fits in line with punishments of the day... So go ahead and start poking holes into this theory until it looks like Beckett's ship at the end of AWE.
  6. The game's release date was delayed again (was supposed to be this June)...apparently distribution problems... Although, they did just do a site redesign which is quite sharp, and the ship guide under the library is fantastic! Sigh...The only good I can see from the continued delays is that it gives me more time to get a new computer!
  7. Thanks for posting the review RumbaRue...even if it was poorly written(IMO). I won't pass judgement on the movie, having not seen it, but this review is far from helpful. My favorite part of his review was his closing, Too violent for children, and not smart enough for the increasingly savvy and demanding YouTube bunch... Yeah, because when I think of intelligence and savvy, I think of YouTube... Oh, and RottenTomatoes has a whole bunch of review already: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/pirates_of...he_caribbean_3/
  8. I love how these governments rush to lay claim to sunken treasure despite having nothing to do with it's recovery. Talk about greed! Makes you wonder how much lost treasure has been recovered throughout the years and hidden so that the government doesn't take it. How many archaeological sites discovered, plundered and lost to the world because the government demands their share! Tis' neat to see buckets o gold and silver coins though!
  9. Until last week I would have said that I would NEVER buy a HD format player...but I recently went to a mates house that has a new 1080p 40" and I can see why some people might be interested in HD video now. The DVD looks perfect enough in my opinion, but if you have a $2000 TV, you may want to get the best you can out of it. For meself, my 34" CRT will make a Bluray or an HD DVD look just like the DVD, so I won't be getting either format anytime soon! Also, I'd like to flog Disney a bit for putting ARCOSS on PotC2... DVD is a standardized format for a reason! The pirates don't care about your copy protection and get around it in no time, but us paying customers have to deal with incompatibility issues! Hopefully, they won't be making defective discs for PotC3...
  10. If the final cut removes all this backstory...hopefully they will include it in the DVD? At least as a nice deleted scenes extra? And hopefully not shilled with "Sponsored by Verizon!"
  11. I've also heard that the line, "put him in bed with the captain's daughter" was originally, "give him a taste of the captain's daughter." The latter making more sense with the connotation behind captain's daughter.
  12. That's a fantastic idea Patrick! I'm saddened that you weren't chosen. I have never watched a single 'Survivor' episode through. After 15 minutes of it, I was sickened and turned back to the History channel... Still, your idea to 'buck the system' and work together to win, is exactly the pirate spirit in my estimation. Pirates may have been lawless thugs, but they knew how to work together for a common goal. And if you had succeeded, you would have figuratively "looted" the producers, who are in dire need of a pirate trial if anyone ever was. It's funny how things change, and yet stay the same. The producers of the 21st century or the upper class(royalty) of the 17 and 18th centuries...It's all the same. It would have been really special to see someone take them down a notch, like only pirates of yesteryear could.
  13. Cute cat! But I'm confused...where are the legos? I wish I could still buy pirate lego sets...where did you order this stuff?
  14. Just a word o warning to Mr Scabbs, Bilgemunky and others, that Akella's Age of Pirates series uses Starforce copy protection...which may or may not damage your computer... People feel strongly enough about it to make whole boycott lists... And yeah...I agree with the sentiments that Burning Sea has sort of worn out it's welcome so to speak. Still, if I get a new computer that could handle the ridiculous requirements for that game, I'll definitely give it a whirl.
  15. That's fantastic! Just name yer price mate!
