  1. Thanks mates,

My wife's uncle lives in Key West and said the same thing about the Rum Barrel. Unfortunately, we’ll have the shortest time in KW so there are some things we wont be able to do. The mother-in-law said the aquarium is pretty cool, so I think we’ll be going there.

    Keep the ideas coming,

    Gryffin

  2. Helllo all,

I’ll be going on my first cruise this summer. My wife is finishing her MBA and my mother-in-law and her husband planned the trip for us, they’ll also be going as well as our kids (12 and 8). I’m looking for things to do and places to see while we are in port. We’ll be sailing on Royal Caribbean and our stops will be Nassau, Cococay, and Key West. I’m already planning on going to the Pirate Soul Museum and the Rum Barrel in Key West. If anyone has some points of interest they’d like to share I’d be very thankful.

Thanks for you time and info,

    Gryffin

  3. I first heard of them last year. Then me and my son went to see them in concert last spring, his second concert, first was Trans-Siberian Orchestra last winter. I always keep one or two of thier CDs in my player at all times. Great music.

  4. Your son's car is great looking! Your daughter's is done well too!  ;)

Next year our group is hoping to do this again in May. I don't want to make another car (but probably will if I can get the right tools) and will just race the current winner (me) against the newcomers.

    Thanks.

The boat and one mast is from the rain gutter regatta kit. The water, and various decks are from the pinewood derby kit and the rest is popsicle stick, bambo skewer and a dowel rod. Oh and a wooden bobbin.

  5. Ok here is my car or my son's or... I built it and he decided he wanted to race it. It won most unique design, which is what I was going for and 2nd place in the Webelos II division. I had to cut the masts down so it would fit under the finish line but I'm happy with it.

And my daughter's car won best looking. She picked out the colors and decals. I think she also came in 3rd in the siblings race.

    Try this:

"I don't want to hurt anybody, I don't enjoy hurting anybody. I don't like guns, or bombs, or electric chairs, but sometimes people just wont listen, and so I have to use persuasion, and slides. "

    [showing slide pictures]

"My parents, Sharon and Dave, Generous, doting, or were they? All I ever wanted was a Ballerina Barbie in her pretty pink tutu. My Birthday, I was 10, and do you know what they got me, MALIBU Barbie, that's not what I wanted, that's not who I was, I was a *Ballerina*, graceful, delicate, THEY had to go!"

[the next slide shot shows a burning house]

  7. Bess,

What's it like to sit back and listen to everyone's speculations on what is going to happen in the 3rd film?

Do you read all this and say "That one is getting close" or "wow that is so far off the map he should be falling over the edge of the world"?

    I was just curious.

  8. Here’s mine:

When I was a lad, about 10 or 11, I was lying in bed just about to fall off to sleep. You know that point where your in-between awake and sleep? Well, it was summer time so I had on a short sleeved shirt and the covers where around my waist. All of a sudden I felt a hand on my arm and it shocked me awake. It didn’t feel cold but more like a shock and I could feel where each finger was. I pulled up my covers to my neck and eventually fell asleep. That was almost 30 years ago it’s just recently that I’ve been able to leave my shoulders uncovered when I’m going to bed.

I also feel that when you think you saw someone out of the corner of your eye and when you turn to look and no one is there, that that could have been a ghost. You might try to play it off as a trick of light or shadow but I think that could have been a glimpse of the other side.

Just a story and a thought.

  9. Pete,  Way back when a company by the name of Mego used to make action figures and they had some cool pirates!  Google Dr. Mego and give it a look see.

I also seem to recall owning a Captain Hook and Captain Peg Leg figures with cutlass and knife throwing action.  I think these were by Mattel...

    Jib,

You maybe thinking of the Fighting Furies from Matchbox. They where out from 1973-76 and had 2 sets, pirates and cowboys.

I had the full set of pirates with the ship carrying case and different costumes. Man I had a blast with them; I wish I had them for my kids now.

  10. Jack did shot Barbossa before the curse was lifted. Of course we don’t know how fast the cursed pirates regenerated after receiving injuries, so Barbossa’s heart could have healed and the blood on his chest could have been a flesh wound by the time Will dropped the coin back in to the chest. Or maybe Barbossa had enough life left in him to go to the chest and take a coin back out after Jack left.

Also I read this today on SCIFI.com:

    Richards Coming To Pirates

Johnny Depp, who reprises the character of Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, told SCI FI Wire that he and director Gore Verbinski are still trying to schedule scenes with Rolling Stones rock star Keith Richards, who will play Sparrow's father, but that it looks promising. "It looks like it's going to happen," Depp told reporters at a news conference in Nassau, Bahamas, where the films are shooting. "But I don't know when. It's all going to depend on where we are and where he is, because he's got a little thing called the Rolling Stones tour to do."

Depp also confirmed that the first sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, took an early hiatus because a key cast member fell ill. "We've been shooting Pirates 2 for, well, it's been a few months ... now," Depp said on June 26. "And we had a hiatus that was planned; actually, probably it was supposed to start ... tomorrow or the next day. And we went into the hiatus a bit early, because there were bits that we were going to shoot up in Grand Bahama [for which] sets and stuff weren't ready. But more than that, one of ... our actors, one of our main guys, Kevin McNally, who plays Gibbs, ended up with a really nasty ear infection in both ears, and he was in England and ... was unable to get on a plane. So they just weighed out all the options and said, 'We'll just break now. Go on hiatus. And when we start up again, we'll finish up the bit from 2.'"

Verbinski will shoot the first and second sequels back to back. Dead Man's Chest reunites the cast from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, including Depp, Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) and Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann), and adds Bill Nighy as the ghostly Davy Jones.

Depp met with reporters to promote his upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but it was clear he had transitioned into full pirate mode: He sported a scraggly beard, gold-capped teeth and a tattoo with the name "Jack" and the image of a sparrow against a sunrise on his right forearm. But Depp said it was a pleasure returning to the franchise. "It's weird," he said. "We didn't quite know what to expect before we went back into ... Pirates 2. A lot of things happened. ... Orlando's, you know, [in] these big movies. And Keira, you know, all this stuff. And everybody's all over the map. And so we didn't quite know what to expect. And Gore, obviously, Gore's been working like a demon. But honestly, we stepped on the set the first day, and it was like, for me, jumping back into the skin of Captain Jack. ... It felt like we'd had a week off, you know, from the first one. And it's been a really great time, you know? Everybody's been super good and fun, and I think it's going to be good. I hope. I'll knock wood again."

  11. You need boot garters. They are small belts or ties that go under the flap just below your knee. I was having the same problem and had an old pair of “80’s” boots that had belts wrapped around the ankle, not doing anything just for show, and have metal tabs on the ends. I punched a few new holes and let the ends hang out from under the buckets for decoration; it looks good and works great.

Check Ren boot sites or leather sites on the web. I know I’ve seen them out there I just can’t remember where.
