  1. Arr, I lied in my previous post when I said I be posting hat pictures over the week-end. Me memory stick ate the pictures and then we 'ad a thunder storm.
  2. Arr, I think we can keep the subject 'er in Plunder, but just start a new topic. We've pretty much gotten off topic from Charity's original post looking for images for garb reference.
  3. Arr DuCouer, I was going to suggest a couple sites: The Civil War section of Replica Weaponry http://www.replicaweaponry.com/index.html http://www.replicaweaponry.com/civwarsworre.html and The Sword section of Antique Firearms http://www.antique-firearms.com/ But as for quality I'm not sure that they hold a candle to the site you mentioned.
  4. Pictures, pictures, I want to see some hat pictures.... Actually we should probably just start a new hat topic. Ok, this week-end I'll take some pictures of the felt hats I’ve made, start a new hat topic and post a link to the pictures.
  5. Aye Cascabel, what do you charge to build - finish a kit weapon for someone?… generally speaking.
  6. Arr DuCouer, don't ye be worried about not being able to type, I be the same way. It took me a while before I noticed that there be an edit button.... top right hand corner of your post after you be logged in.
  7. Arr, there be one of those fancy-shmancy leather hats we all be talking about for sale at Chivalry Sports, www.rentstore.com, $29.99. If it be the hat I be thinking, it's got a wire running through the brim. Even after a bend to one's will, I'm not sure how period it be looking. http://www.renstore.com/cgi-bin/Renstore.s.../MTK&2D952X&2D1
  8. Arr, I haven't yet been to colonial Williamsburg yet, it sounds like it be a good stop.
  9. Arr Jocko, I just be talking with one of The Poxy Boggards the other day about a hat for music trade and it turns out that he wants a hat made out of leather. Now I've made a few faire pouches in my day but, I've got no experience making hats out of leather. I told him that I'd be willing to give it try and I'm still waiting to hear back from him about what he be wanting exactly. I think it be an interesting idea to say the least, making a hat that weathers the weather better than felt. But I haven't done much research on the leather vs. felt. Do you know of any theatrical or museum examples that could be used for reference? Hey, has anyone ever heard of a tricorne hat being made of leather? http://www.poxyboggards.com/
  10. Aye Capt Weaver that be me through and through, adorable by day and Stynky by night...Or is it the other way around?
  11. Aye Capt Flint, that be a good thing. I just wanted to double check with all the recent board mishaps.
  12. Oh, here's a link to Center Stage for those of you that be interested. http://www.centerstagecostumes.com/index.htm
  13. Aye, hats off to Tobacco Meg over there at Center Stage Costume. Though I have yet to buy the hat(s) of my desires from 'er, the hats she has for sale I think are awesome. Over the years I have purchased a few thing s from her, bandannas, stockings, over the knee breeches and such, all great stuff, all well made and well worth the asking price. I've dabbled a bit in hat shaping myself, starting with a slouch hat or hat blank and using a pot of boiling water for steam and a hot iron. I have a couple hat forms, 1-rounded and 1-flat to help shape the crown but, it's hard work. Though I really enjoy it and have even been commissioned to make a few hats, I haven’t found a way that be cost effective.
  14. Aye, I've always liked theOsprey books for general art and information. But I really love the Angus McBride illustrations, great stuff, I can't get enough of them.
  15. Cascabel, I think this be as good a time as any to do a bit of self-promot’n of yer wares. Though it likely to be out of me own price range, I'm sure that there be more than a few us ‘ere interested in prices for your efforts.
  16. Capt Flint, I be wondering if you got the mailing address I sent you?
  17. When? Where? What? Ok, it be true that you've already told us the when but, can you go over the what and where for those of us that not already in the know...
  18. Angus, thank you once again for your diligence and hard work keeping the board a float. If there be anything I can do to help, I'll pledge me steel. Thanks again.
  19. Pictures, pictures, pictures, I want to see some pictures, especially that hat work of yours Capt Roberts.
  20. If you be traveling south down the Virginia coast, you should stop off at the Jamestown fort settlement. Though I’m not sure what level of interest there be with this ‘ere pirate community, the excavated exhibits, replica fort and ships are a grand site to be seen. There be reenactors wandering the grounds and sometimes the shooting off of black powder matchlock weapons. I know it all be 17th century and on the early side of what most consider the “Golden Age”, but aside from being the first permanent English colony in the new world, I believe they had some visits by English Privateers that would check in on them from time to time and see how the colony was doing. Plus there's a campsite proximal to the actual archeological site and replica settlement. http://www.historyisfun.org/index.html http://www.historyisfun.org/jyf1/calendar.html And if you be going farther south to North Carolina, you should stop by the Maritime Museum in Morehead City. Though I haven’t been, from what I understand they have artifacts that have been raised from Black Beard’s own ship, Queen Anne’s Revenge. http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/qar/default.htm http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/sections/mar...ime/default.htm http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/sections/mar...ckbeard/qar.htm Oh and if you do a visit to the Dismal Swamp, let me know what it be like, with a name like that I just gotta visit.
  21. Aye and ye gots me vote for a get together.
  22. Arr, someone be sure to take along an enchanted telescope and share the pictures.
  23. Arr, like Capt Flint be 'aving something to complain about... just look at all those um dot thing notches above 'is name and title. And thank you again Angus. I know it to be hard working steering the board clear of unsafe waters.
  24. Tis seem that there be some sort of bewitchery a foot.
