  1. I am sure that this has been said elsewhere,but...

Can we organize some smaller scale alternative(s) in our local areas as something of a fundraiser for FOFT?

I realize that I haven't made it to the event since '09, but I am having withdrawals at the thought alone of not getting there this year. I am even living in The Sunshine State once again and being this much closer to Cayo Hueso was a major factor in the decision to move home.

Any thoughts on how to keep this event viable? I would like to do what I can to help.

  2. Just wondering about the possibility of trade blankets for the 2014 event. Since we just moved home to Florida very recently, we are not in a good position to set up as full merchant/vendors, but we are unpacking some of our handcrafted items and we would like to make them available. Should this be allowed, and profitable trade come our way, we would be glad to share that good fortune.

  3. dis t'read a bit old now, but I t'ought I might ask me questions 'ere, as dey seems ta be related...

we now live full time in our RV and it is how we will be travelling down to PIP 2014.

I know that there are no hook-up on site, but I was wondering if there are restrictions regarding entering with and parking an RV in the parking area. I do seem to remember one or two back in '09

  4. Zeewolves: Crew of 3... Cutter & Ginger, and one more to be announced

Haven't been able to attend since '09, so please let us know if we need to make more formal arrangements.

Seeing as we will be Florida Residents by then, we have no excuses for not attending this year.

  7. Thanks very much for your purchase. I am sending the book to you today.

My Lady and I are in the process of paring down our possessions for a long overdue move back to La Florida... and a move onto our boat! So, lots has to go. This evening, I will get a better list together, and post it here to the Pub. As mentioned I have many books on Boatbuilding, both history and techniques. Lots more on homebuilding, cabinetry and general woodworking... all looking for a good home.

    I will keep you posted.

  8. The time has come for a major Change in Latitude...

To expedite this process, I am divesting myself of most Worldly Possessions. The Book Collection will be the first few bits of this valuable flotsam and jetsam are currently available through barter with the Amazons...

    http://www.amazon.com/shops/islandcutter

I still have MANY titles to list... lots of books on Pirates (of course), many books on Sailing, Boatbuilding, Woodworking, and Home Repair.

You don't get much for selling books on Amazon. I am more interested in seeing them go to good homes. Look over the titles, and feel free to contact me privately if you would like to get a special "package deal" on several books that I could ship out in one box, at a very discounted rate. The better and more valuable books will be listed once I have had a chance to say my goodbyes.

  9. LOL. True as that may be, now there will be two camping with the crew. Mwahahahahaha

We had a great all redhead cannon crew at Blackbeards, now we need another one for Fort Taylor.

Sorry if we seized a moniker, Lil... it's just been très à propos for my little Ginger Gosling. She may be a feisty redhead, but you are The Feisty Redhead.

I have also taken to calling her "Powder Keg" for her, ahem... "mercurial spirit".

Hold on, it gets better... I told her about The Boom Boom Girls and she want to be one too!

Heaven help me! What is left of the red in my beard is rapidly turning grey.

  10. Cutthroat & Blackheart plan to attend this year's festivities. Don't think we"ll put up the "Garage Mahal" out on the Serengeti though, too hot it was!

I'll be bringing me Lady Friend too! She's new to this stuff, but she's a Feisty Redhead and willing to put together her kit by November.

Soooo... any room with the Archangel Crewe.

  11. Island Cutter - ZeeWolves

I will probably not bring the "Garage Mahal" this year... it was a lot to set up and it took a real beating in the Storm.

Put me down anywhere. All I need is a palm frond for a blanket and coquina for a pillow, the rum will do the rest.

  12. You can't go wrong with the advice that Dutch has offered... both the mast and boom need to be rigid, and it helps if the boom light.

Start out simply and traditionally, and you will find that you can get your rig together fairly inexpensively. I would bet that a suitable sail could be found on eBay for only a few bucks.

...and if you really want to make yourself crazy (in a good way) check out The Cheap Pages - Poly Tarp Sails

    http://thecheappages.com/oddsails.html

The current issue of WoodenBoat Magazine (February 2010 Number 212) has a great section on "Sailing Rigs - A Beginner's Guide" The $6.25 that you spend on the Magazine will be money well spent. Find a rig that appeals to your eye, and go with that. I would suggest the Sprit Rig... no boom to smack you in the head.

Take things slowly. Keep things simple. You can do all is needed to bring this sleeping beauty back into her natural element.

(BTW: I have restored several boats professionally, and I would be glad to offer any advice that I can. PM or e-mail me if you have ANY questions.)
