  1. If you liked bridget jone's diary you should read the ORIGINAL, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, I was not too happy with Bridget Jones as Elizabeth Bennette !

She would never have acted so weak in the ways that Bridget Jones does.

    Rant over !

On to what I am reading....

Speaks the Nightbird by Robert McCammon

It is about a witch trial in 1699 Carolina. I am just to chapter 12 out of 28. It is very good so far and seems to be very historically correct.

I will tell anyone who is interested how it goes

  2. That is rather odd as I do not see anything listed on it that isn't on the first set except the Johnny Depp commentary ! and on the first set there are 20 extra scenes not 19! Perhaps they are trying to keep interest up in the public eye since it looks like it may be a bit of a long stretch until we get 2 and 3 ?

    Pondering the pond,

  3. He didn't skip a beat. He then attacked me hat.

Attacked your hat ?? Ohhow dare he ? He was quiet a lucky upstart that it was such a relaxed and fine pirate as your self he was belittling the hat of. In some pirates eyes you should as soon mess with your own heart beat as to attack a man's hat!

Here is a free round and a kiss on the cheek for your patience and knowing when an impertinent ship jumper is not worth the effort of sharpening your tounge on !

  4. and not the whore dresses you see some ladies wearing at pirate fests today.

    Goodness Lad,

there are ladies present ! No need to shout or use such phrases as whore here, we all know the dresses you are speaking of and they are not all so bad. You have a right to your thoughts but please no need to name call clothing style or otherwise.

  5. I am sorry you missed the Dangerous Liasions exhibit as well! And for such a horrid reason. Perhaps it will come back ?

I have been trying to find the fabric that they used in POTC for Elizabeth's peach dress. Does anyone know where it may be purchased ? I have looked everywhere! I even emailed Cosprop, who made most of the clothes for POTC but they must be terribley busy as I received no reply as of yet.

Have you ever tried Fabric.com ?

Oh and I saw JP Ryan has a new Robe le' Angelaise... yay!

Are there any good tutorials out there on how to use a book to draft a pattern ? I thought of trying to use my copier but that could waste a bit too many trees for my liking!

Thanks in advance for all your advice!

  6. Ahh, then the pan asian resteraunt I have heard tale of must be going to bein the condo block. I knew the owner had died but always thought there was hope that it would stay the same :{ Seems to be a pattern in these parts of putting up ugly condos! I live in a 1907 house in West Seattle and we own the 1/4 acre next to us. We have had several development projects try to buy us out and I refuse.

    Hurricane,

You must live in these parts, perhaps we should try for a tankard on Alki at some time

    respect,

  7. Ol' Chumbucket and meself just spent a week with the Seafair Pirates in Seattle and we rode "The Moby Duck" in the Torchlight parade there.

Now, they be a salt crew o' rascals if ever there were! :(

    Cap'n Slappy

Indeed they are! I love to see them going over the west seattle freeway in their 'motor boat'! One of the scallywags happens to live down the street and his land boat has the license plate moniker "pirate"

  8. As I said before they may be calling in the order of importance. I'm not saying your friend is in no way important, I'm onlu saying they are calling the speaking parts first and then in an order on down the line.

    Hello,

sadly, if I recall correctly, one of Barbossa's main crew lost a battle of his own and left this mortal coil by his own hand.... am I wrong? Grappel wasn't it? So sad, and I liked him in that and other parts!

  9. I should let Toby know about this. That would make him move to California in a heartbeat. To always dress as Jack and get paid for it too! lol! He practically lives as Jack now! And oh, goodness, if they get a Barbossa too I'll be at Disneyland practically everyday! Hmmm....me thinks it's time to renew my Disney annual passport-lol!

Hello ! Yes yes you should. He just posted on the POTCcostuming board that he has an agreement with a Toy Faire for an appearance as Jack!! So grand when hobbies start making you some bob!!!

    Happily,

  10. Hello Fine Gent,

I am indeed glad you have changed your ways a bit! Since you brought up the subject I shall share my feelings on this topic.

Being a Lady most of my life and having my clothes made by others I just started sewing seriously about a year and a half ago. I seem to have a knack for it and feel very lucky of the fact. But not everyone is as grand a sewer as others may be. I know I am still learning everday, why the lovely lass Kass helped me just yesterday with draping a gown. I know, from experience, how badly it hurts when you have tried your best on something and people cut it to shreds. It takes alot of courage for some people to even put on something that is usually seen as a costume and walk around in it, much less make it. Most people are so happy to be able to do that alone and have fun. Then when someone comes up and criticizes it can be ever so cruel, sometimes even making the person stop doing costuming or going to events or Faires at all. I always think the happy smile someone wears as well as their outfit make authenticity a bit trivial at times. I am always so tickled that people even try. For most people their real life is such that it is a big change to even try and I applaud them for that

    We all have our strong points, someone who may not be able to sew may be able to fix my toilet and for that I am grateful. The person who keeps my car running for a fair price may not know where the term sleazy came from but you can be sure I depend on him and would gladly take him to any event with me :}

    With respect

  11. Fellow Sea Dwellers,

it is with a most heavy heart I must announce that the BenBow Inn resteraunt & tavern on Admiral St in West Seattle has officially been sold and will not be reopened to it's former glory. This wonderful place was a favorurite dive of mine. The interior was done up just as a ship and most of the regulars looked more like pirates than I think they realized. It was truly one of the most unique little pub and grubs I have ever had the pleasure of sticking to a booth in. I am most deeply saddened at all my fellow pirate lovers and all the pirates out there who will never experience it.

It has been sold and is being gutted to make way for a new Pan Asian type eatery.. whatever Pan Asian is.....

    Glum in my rum

  12. I do wish we had a bit more pirates of the fun kind here in Puget Sound. We have a lovely harbour and The Lady Washington has often laid anchor here. I may be over looking some events and would be most happily content in knowing of any here in Seattle that may be unknown to me.

    BlackHeartedPearl,

I adore your glass ship. I used to collect such things but having 2 pups at once made it a moot venture!

Watching the Sound as a storm rolls in

  13. Can anyone suggest any good sailing cd's? I have one fine recording by Father son and Friends but have no others. Are there any among you that can point me in the right direction?

    Most exceedingly obliged

I jave moved this to the sea shantie sub forum but do not kow how to delete this one

  15. Alot of the costumes are not as subtle in person as the detail has to be tripled for it to show up on film. I have been trying to match the fabric of the dress Elizabeth wears at the end of POTC for a year now and I believe it must be a hand painted thing. But it looks quiet different on screen than in person

  16. I found some really righteous %100 silk grosgrain in London about 5 years ago.

It was extrememly difficult to find and was quite pricey (about $50 a yard) and I needed about 6 yards for the Justoucorps... yikes!

I am still looking for some decent trim for the buttonholes and am trying to have the *right* buttons made.

When I lived in England, I was able to spend a good amount of time at both the V & A and the Bath museum of fashion but they too did not have much in the way of 1690 - 1720 men's clothes.

    Egad!

Yes I spent a little over that a yard for my Sleepy gown fabric. I was so scared when I cut it and now I am worried it is not right !

Have you tried MJTrim.com ? They have loads of things and there is also a store here called Nancy's sewing basket that I go to once a week. If you tell me what you want I can look. They have an online ordering page, I could give you the item number and you could order it yourself.

I was sad at the V&A when I discovered the textiles exhibits were closed for remodeling.

The Bath museum was amazing and I was thrilled as they had a Jane Austen in the movies exhibit when I went

  17. The model they got to pose is just. . . eeeeeew.

Ahhh M'Lady.. they cannot all be Johnny Depp now can they ? Sigh, what a wonderful world that would be... makes me want to write a song ... oh wait, that ALREADY is a song hehehe

  18. Oh and yes I understand about Rocking Horse Farm. They are trying to redo their patterns a bit better but there are still some muck ups. I have just started using Mill Farm and they seem quiet good so far, (keeping my thimbles crossed).
