There's a bunch of different things you can do! A not exhaustive list of things to use:

    • Piece of wood lumber (pros: small pieces are often cast offs and easy to find, con: grain can be a pain work with, just do all your carving with the grain, absorbs ink)
    • Linoelum block (pros durable, can be carved in any direction, consistent. cons: can be expensive, might want a way to hold it while carving, set size unless you want to saw)
    • unmounted linoelum (pros, easy to cut to size, straightforward carving. cons: not rigid, easy to accidentally cut through, still kinda expensive)
    • rubber blocks for printing, ie Speedy carve (pros: pink is super easy to carve, easy to cut to size cons: kinda expensive, might be hard to source, not long term durable)
    • pink eraser blocks (pros:cheap, easy to find, easy to carve. Cons: small size, hard to hold while carving)
    • potatoes (Pros: easy to care, easy to find, cheap. cons: kinda wet and starchy. rots)
    • 3D printing (Pros: I dunno? Fun to combine lots of skills, no hand strength needed Cons: expensive, time consuming, high learning curve)

Other things that aren't exactly carving or block printing that you could do:

    • Mono printing, basically painting with the ink and then making one print of that
    • Found objects, finding material with interesting texture/relief and printing with those this is really easy to do with leaves

  2. Hello everyone!  Duchess I love that you restore fountain pens..I have a pen fetish.  Any and all types of pens.  I try and play minecraft but had a lousy computer now I have a faster one so may try again.  The Pirate Fortress is really cool!  For me it's working, still have heath issues my diabetes remains uncontolled.  My daughter is trying to get me into sewing with her.  She is making aprons and such.  I really need to get back into sewing and drawing.

  3. Meet your Admin / Moderator Team

Hello my name is Kimberly but I am known as The Black Syren . I am a Texas native and have always been fascinated with pirates and buried treasure. Grew up close to the coast so during the summer or on weekends I was always at Crystal Beach or riding the ferry to Galveston.

The ferry became my pirate ship and I have been hooked ever since. However, I did not know about the Pyracy Pub till The Curse of the Black Pearl came out. I began looking online for others who shared my interest. I had no idea how many shared my interest till I signed into the Pub.

Of course, signing in meant coming up with a name and I went by Siren, Siren Song and Treasure till I settled on The Black Syren and it’s been my name ever sense.

I love all things Pirate and of course the Trident is MY symbol LOL. I love Tridents! I sing, belly dance, write (my favorite) , paint and draw and though not great at sewing I do try.

For my home life I am happily married for about 26 years, have a daughter who is 24 years old and who is also married. I also belong to a crew called The Brotherhood of the Crossed Bones and we have members across the state of Texas! We gather at Ren Faires (Sherwood Forest and TRF) as well as work with charities like Make A Wish and Austin Pets Alive!

I am your moderator for The Scuttlebutt and the Galley.  All in all glad to meet you and if you have questions or need anything let us know!

Welcome to the Pub and grab a Plunder Me Cherry (Drink) and immerse yourself in all things Pyracy!

    Cheers,

    The Black Syren

  4. So glad to be back! Hugs to each of you. Yes William she is 16 and just has her first car. Michael I will be 42 this August and I assure you she is mine. LOL. Thanks for the welcome back! Jas you may have as many drinks as ye can hold!😆 Lady B welcome back to you as well. And Captain Bo I will hold your cherries! Good to see you still here.

  5. I am back! Plunder Me Cherries all around! Sure have missed all of ! It's been crazy busy, daughter turning 16, joining a crew...finally, and well finding a sponsor for our pirate activities. But thanks to William Red Wake my password is good again. Who all is still about??

  6. Duchess I am so glad that you are continuing this tradition and in all my years on the Pub I have only participated once. My reason is that I felt I had nothing to gift that was as impressive as the gifts being received and then I painted the Treasure Map for Rumba and realized I did indeed have something to gift in return. This is a Pub tradition and it should continue and to grow. I could not participate this time as I was locked out of the Pub and could not get back in, every time my pass changed it would last a day or so then lock me out again and I had to start all over again. I would be honored to participate this coming year, and if possible know who my gift is for so it gives me more time to prepare for finding it/making it and sending it out in time.

But again Thank You for what you do and continue to do for the Pub! :D
