Buying this shirt, bad or good deal?
King's Pyrate replied to ViVi Trottsky's topic in Thieves Market
ahum, some of us dreadlocked girlies wouldn't fall for a bright shirt. Seriously though, the costume shirt at MalWart is less than $20, cotton & much more manly "pirate" looking. I'm all for people having fun on halloween with costumes but that is more goth vampire than pirate. I bought 2 of them....around $12.......Dyed one purple...they make great loaners for newly recruited pirates and they are thin and cool. Live Long and Plunder Well! KP -

I think Hurricane is right about the hat....I believe it is a foam type construction and will not last......besides, to my way o' think'n, it looks beat up.......I'm think'n a successful pirate would be wearing someone elses new hat and not an old wore out hat. Tis just my thoughts. Live long and Plunder Well! KP -

John, John, ye are such a hard hard man...lol There are many ways to enjoy piracy...and when you get as old as some of us are ye might not like ta get hot n sweaty doing those things (sav'n yer energy fer other kinds of sweaty things) but still like ta enjoy a bit of play'n the pirate. We offer an alternate fantasy world to them what likes play'n pirate but don't care to reenact piracy with realism. I respect and admire your dedication to your style of pirate’n and if you don’t mind us enjoy’n our style of play’n pirate (eat’n, drink’n & supporting charities) I promise to not mind the way you play pirate. Fair winds, Calm Seas and Fried Shrimp King’s Pyrate And No sir, Captain Jim, I have never skipped a bill….though the thought has cross my evil mind….lol -

Smell is indeed a wonderful thing. We tend to associate good and bad things by their smell. When I was small I would go to sea with my father who was captain of a shrimp trawler. The smells of the boat, although awful to some, were smells I grew to associate with the time spent on the boat. The nets drug the bottom where the shrimp lived and were tarred to make them last longer. When the nets hung above the deck to dry the hot Florida sun would cause the tar smell to cover the boat and mix with the salt and seafood smells. For the rest of my life similar smells would stimulate my memories of the wonderful time I spent at sea as a boy. One other smell I grew to love was the smell of the diesel exhaust as the wind whipped it back on deck......To this day when a bus goes by, I raise my head and sniff the blowing exhaust and think of those days on the shrimp boat. Thank You....you just reminded me of those wonderful days at sea. King's Pyrate

Here is out POTC Photos from Hurricane Patty's....We had lots of fun and even made the front page of the local newspaper Pirate fans salute new movie By MARCIA LANE | More by this reporter | marcia.lane@staugustinerecord.com | Posted: Saturday, July 8, 2006 ; Updated: 6:47 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2006 Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow is back and it turns out he has no lack of fans in the St. Augustine area. From a 5-year-old to captains and wenches considerably older, fans gathered in full pirate regalia at Hurricane Patty's at Oyster Creek Marina on Friday to celebrate the opening of the latest movie in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. Then, they headed over to the Ponce de Leon Mall to watch the rousing action in the Johnny Depp pirate film. The restaurant's decor includes a couple of full-size pirate figures climbing up ship's ropes, making it a perfect locale for a pirate celebration. The pirate behind the local celebration is writer Joseph O'Steen whose daylight job has him working with aircraft at Northrup-Grumman. At night and on weekends, he retires to his cabin to get in the mood to write his Nathan Beauchamp sea adventures. He's written two books in his series on a Napoleonic-era British naval officer. These days, he's also pursuing the idea of writing a pirate story with St. Augustine locales. "Everybody wants to be a bad boy or pretend to be a bad boy. It's good, safe fun," O'Steen said of the pirate craze and phase. O'Steen organized the get-together in about two weeks, putting out posters and contacting members of his Promoting Outstanding Writers! group. "I've been getting calls from strangers asking if they could come. I said sure," he said. A poster was how Chale Kelley and his parents, Donna and Dave Kelley, heard about the gathering. The family is from Jacksonville but has a condo at the beach here. Chale, 11, wore a black-and-white pirate scarf, leather waistcoat, pirate shirt and buccaneer boots. It's the same costume he used for Halloween. He was nearly shanghaied by a disreputable captain known as "Bad Dog" and his wench portrayed by Scott and Mia Brewer, re-enactors who have the pirate look, accent and mind set down pat. Bad Dog, elegant in a frock coat and pirate hat, explained they had lost their ship, but he knew he had parked it "somewhere near the water.""We need a new cabin boy. He's perfect. We're taking him," Mia Brewer, dressed in the fashion of an 18th-century wench, said in a Cockney accent. Chale looked like it might be a tempting offer. However, he wanted to head for the movie. "It's really cool and Johnny Depp is really funny," he said. Over at a corner table, Taylor Scott, 5, sat in a red frock coat, his black pirate hat on the table between he and his parents, Stephen and Lesley Scott of Palm Coast. Taylor lifted up a black velvet pouch attached to his belt. "It's got pirate gold, real pirate gold. And jewels," he said. About two dozen people came dressed in varying degrees of pirate fancy and the number was growing as time for the movie neared. "We're into fun," Mark Fontana of Palm Coast said. "And we like to dress up," added Jean Fontana, who said for Capt. Jack's next movie, she'd have a really special costume ready. "They don't have all this fun stuff to do in Maine," said the Fontana's friend John MacDowall, who recently moved to the area from Maine. Asked about the crowd of would-be pirates, Corban Rutherford of Hurricane Patty's explained, "This is not our first pirate party. What else are people going to dress up for, for Halloween?"

back yard pirate cove, piratical decor
King's Pyrate replied to oderlesseye's topic in Beyond Pyracy
right now things are torn apart....driving the little wench crazy having her galley all askew......my next task it to level the floor then start with the floating wooden plank flooring. off the shelf flooring but I know it will look nice and salty like a ships deck. Then I will start on the island...going to extend it about 4 ft with that being in the shap of a ships bow......trying to come up with a design that is pleasing to the eye while being functional at the same time and not too intrusive in the small kitchen....When I get to that point I will start a thread for it. Right now I am rigging my garb for the POTC Premier Party we are having next Friday....Going to a Pirate Restaurant for some grog and rabble rousing then on to raid the mall theater....got around 50 swashbucklers lined up to come and if they all shows up it will be a grand affair, indeed. party poster 1 party poster 2 Wish ye were here ta come play with us. Have a Great Week! KP
