  1. Perhaps the answer to the ring cost issue would be to elect only a few new members each time. The harder it is to get into the Order, the more coveted it will be. And I do not see how we would benefit from growing exponentially with 12 new members each year or other year.

  2. I have seen much discussion about nominations for the next candidates for the Order of Leviathan, but no answers as to when and where to send our nominations.

I, too , am in agreement that we should decided on who is nominated to our Order. All other orders and "societies" hand pick their members and it is put to a vote. I say we each nominate someone, and let the online voting determine the finalists. I do not think we should grow exponentially , but add a few members each year. Make it something to work for... to be worthy of.

I am also in agreement that the dice should not be determining our Order choice, but only used for prizes or tiebreakers.

  3. What is going to be the "official" way of recommending or nominating people for consideration for membership ? I see people being mentioned in the public Order of Leviathan thread, and wonder if that is going to be the way it is to be done, or will it be done by e-mail to Pirates Magazine, or some other route ?

Now if I understand this correctly, and I'm not saying that I do after the amount of beers I've consumed. But I believe each one of us/each individual, as an Order of Leviathan member gets to nominate somebody.

...........and where and how do we make these nominations, in order for them to be recognized as "official"

Well I would assume our nominees would get emailed to Talderoy direct like, but I'll give him a call and try and find out specifically.

And I agree, no dice rolling. Totally unneccessary. If it looks like a pirate is gonna be voted in by a landslide... then so be it. They deserve it, and damn how it looks to outsiders.

Hear, hear, I agree! The dice only need come out to break a tie, or roll for prizes.

But unfortunately, I do think members of Pirates Magazine will still be off limits.

Sure. I think that would be fun! Can tie in some related history too

  7. Maritime, well then I nominate Colonial Seaport Foundation... the more press they get, the more funding, the sooner Luna sets sail for all to enjoy.

The earlier we get nomanees in the bester right?

If you have any suggestions let them know to send in pictures and bios to Pirates Magazine.

Are you permitted to nominate more than one Captain? I have two and wish to nominate them both

  9. Ahoy mates! I was sitting here wondering how many of you have your own personal Jolly Rogers, and if so, would you share them here with us? I am trying to compile as much info on our members as I can, and I thought it would be fun to see something like that. I was also thinking it might be neat to have a t-shirt design made with all of our flags on the back, and maybe the Order logo on the front at the left breast...similar to the t-shirts you see out there with the historical pirate flags such as Blackbeard's, Thomas Tew's, etc. What do you all think? To start this off, here is my own personal flag:

    GreenePirateFlag.jpg

Ahoy Captain Midnight! was just wondering if you received the information about my wanna be pirate flag?

  10. Our upcoming Blackbeard Festival would be a fine time to bring the Order together. It is still several months away to allow for planning, and it in my humble opinion, one of the finest pirate festivals ever. Many of you already attend this event yearly, and there are many great photo ops for the group such as a variety of tall ships and waterfront venues.

    Just a thought....My link

or that may be www. hamptonblackbeardfestival.org

  11. Thank you all! We're off to a good start! We've got some awesome flags, I must say! Jeff, those are good pics of your flag! With your permission, I'll take those pics and make a computer graphic of your flag for you and post it here. It may take a day or so, so just give me a little time, ok? Sterling, I love your Archangel flag! For the rest of you who may not have your own flag, I will tell you the same as I told Willoughby and Braze; if you will let me know how you want your flag to look, or show me even a rough sketch or crayon drawing, I can take that and make you all a flag graphic that you can keep for your own use. This will be my gift to any the Devil's Dozen who need one. Just let me know, ok? wink.gif

YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!

I have an idea but have no skill to make it happen. I will email you the idea right away

Would you like to add in a sea chanty workshop?

  13. "We are an Order of Light shinning upon those raising the bar in our community!"

Please also consider the dictionary definition as we are closer to that then the Devil ha ha, but seriously mates come on??? This has to do more with the serpents on the old maps and high adventure than Ole Nick.We are bigger than worrying about some people thinking a bunch odd pirates are Satan worshipers. Remember this is an Order and you can resign or be voted out and all those in favor of voting out Talderoy for choosing the Satanic name say EYE! t's my choice in the name and it was to invoke(Wait that's a devil worshipers term) Imagination of olde world adventure on the high seas where you worried about things bigger than pirates, SEA MONSTERS. I Believe the name should be edgey. The Order of Unicorns and DO gooders just doesn't do it for me. Anyway from the Horses ass ,,, I mean mouth!

Watch it there, mate! I am a card carrying member of that Order of Unicorns, Pansies, and do Gooders!!! ;)

  14. I agree that this discovery is disturbing. Personally, I struggle with constant misperceptions of the pagan faith having others assume that there is a devil worshiping aspect when nothing could be further from the truth.

With this new research coming to light, I do not think we need to be associated with devil worshiping of course, but it appears that there are other broader meanings as well.

Very clearly defining ourselves and our purpose could likely prevent any problems, though.

Perhaps to consider "Brethren of Leviathan" or Pirates of Leviathan"--getting away from "order" which in itself has religious overtones and connotations

altho "the order of Larry" has a nice ring to it....

Here are the Scriptural references to Leviathan

300px-Lev-Beh-Ziz.jpg magnify-clip.pngLeviathan, Behemoth and ZizThe word "Leviathan" appears in five places in the Bible, with the book of Job, chapter 41, being dedicated to describing the Leviathan in detail:

“"Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning."”—KJV, Job 3:8

“"May those who curse days curse that day, those who are ready to rouse Leviathan."”—NIV, Job 3:8

“"Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? Or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? Canst thou put an hook into his nose? Or bore his jaw through with a thorn? Will he make many supplications unto thee? Will he speak soft words unto thee? Will he make a covenant with thee? Wilt thou take him for a servant for ever? Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? Shall the companions make a banquet of him? Shall they part him among the merchants? Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? Or his head with fish spears? Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more. Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me? Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? Whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion. Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle? Who can open the doors of his face? His teeth are terrible round about. His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered. By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him. The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves. The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon. He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble. Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear. Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire. He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear. He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride."”—KJV, Job 41:1-34

“"Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness."”—KJV, Psalms 74:14

“"O LORD, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein."”—KJV, Psalms 104:24-26

“"In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish the leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea."”—KJV, Isaiah 27:1

  16. Hello. I just joined, and just wanted to say how happy I am to be on board. Truly, I find I am never happier than when in the company of good brethren, and look forward to many stimulating conversations! Pirate music is my speciality- love to sing sea chantys, write parodys of traditional songs ( no song is safe from this piracy!), and help aspiring pirates find their inner pirate.....
