  2. What!!! Today their louder colors and called board shorts. Kit looks great. Just add a neckerchief. Jas. Hook
  3. Well I went to see Pirates - Band of Misfits on Saturday night. Quite a far fetch tale indeed. Set in the 1840's with Chas. Darwin and Queen Victoria as characters and the world's last Dodo bird ( ship's parrot). A cameo role by Cutlass Liz as Caribbean Pearl or was it the other way around??? A few good quips and one lines and action enough not to fall asleep but is is after all a claymation cartoon. Don't forget your popcorn! Jas. Hook
  4. Black Seal, Pyrate, Kraken are my three choices. If I had to choose one... Kraken... neat. Jas. Hook
  5. 'appy Birthday to ye Capn. All the best to ye! Jas. Hook
  6. Umm I did not get what you mean. if you mean that striped breeches were not used then what is this from slop clothing: "Striped Ticken Breeches of proper lengthes, lined with white linen, and two linen Pockets, with Sixteen Black Buttons, the Button Holes stiched with Black Thread, at the rate of five Shillings each ". That description it sounds more like a jacket or a vest rather than breeches. Sixteen buttons, white linen lining, button holes in black and two pockets.... Hummmmm Jas. Hook
  7. Boatswain... Quickly now, get a barrel to that man in the water!!! Jas. Hook
  8. 'appy Birthday to ye 'Eye! Jas. Hook
  9. "...found this rather fitting Incan/Aztec/Tribal pin..." Hummmm...looted by the Spaniards no doubt. Sew the two pieces of felt together and then pin the pin to the outer layer over the stitching. Throw a couple of hitches around the pinback closure to double secure or a drop of white glue on the catch. Jas. Hook
  10. Grymm - That's one heck of a busy painting with a lot going on... ya' need to focus in on a small bit at a time to try and figure out what all is happening. I'm glad that Mission has captured the 'musket monkey' already in his photo. The fiddler reminds me of Capn'Rob. Jas. Hook
  11. Hawkyns - Middlesex Valley has a very brief descriptions on both a ship carbine and a ranger musket they sell with two resource books quoted, Boarders Away Vol.2 and one on Revolutionary War arms. It may spin ye compass on the right course. Jas. Hook
  12. Jib - I'm a blank on this one but having a tossed aboard iron ball wrapped in a lit oil soaked rag rolling across the deck would distract my attention away from the task at hand. Sounds almost like an improvised grenado or firepot. Jas. Hook
  13. Egads... cannoli. Let's cast off and get to sea once again. Cannon Jas. Hook
  14. With so many young folks today thinking that the story of the Titanic was just a movie and only now realizing it was in fact a real event perhaps the introduction of tidbits of the past may start their interest in history. Jas. Hook
  15. Pix - Tiki is good. Make it look worn... wear it! Even if it just on the couch while reading the newspaper or mowing the lawn. Quite a few folks here wear a flat brim hat as part of their 'look'. Work your way into it, try adding a leather hat band with a brass buckle or add a feather or two or a plain silk ribbon band. Jas. Hook
  16. I found a copy of The Arts of the Sailor by Hervey Garrett Smith in a used book shop and couldn't resist. I guess it's a companion book to his The Marlinspike Sailor. Jas. Hook
