  1. That is interesting news. I had a great time at my first trip last year. I did however notice that although ideal for the encampment participants, the Fort is not an ideal location from a marketing point of view. It's away from the masses of tourists and in my opinion would take a big effort and a lot of donated time and resources to get people from downtown Key West to the fort and back. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. It always sucks being rejected, but generally things work out for the better. I foresee a new location that's more tourist friendly that will aid in bringing many more non-participants to the encampment festival. Thanks Fayma, Spike, et al for all the hard work. It's appreciated.
  2. That is excellent as well! So much to look at and take in. I see breeches with no stockings, a couple of interesting hats... Great stuff - but no butt sniffing dogs in this one. I read that the artist did a lot of individual rough portraits and then would combine them in his finished product.
  3. Just came across these paintings by Luca Carlevarijs. They are from a period between 1690-1720. Take a look, there are all sorts of folks in all sorts of clothing. Sailors in slops and short coats, petticoat breeches, landsmen with their stockings over their breeches, dogs sniffing butts, and even sailors without waistcoats or even - gasp shirts! Great stuff!
  4. Hey all, Just found a couple GREAT sites that i thought I would share. You may or may not have seen these before, but both are great. The Victoria and Albert Museum is my favorite. The search function turns up really great results. Search the Collections - Victoria and Albert Museum Wars of Louis Quatorze: July 2008
  5. Wish I could help. Modern trim in my experience is nearly impossible to match with period trim. Good luck!
  6. I'm trying figure out, what specific details would have been in place for breeches around 1695-1700. I'm especially interested in pocket style, cut, how they would have been gathered at the knee, fly closure, etc. I have seen the baggier breeches with ribbon ties at the knees of earlier and the later? less billowy type with the button closure on the knees. Anyone have a pattern or a good reference? This is for my Francois Desportes (seen below) kit I'm having made. What would he have had on? To me, other than the thigh pocket, his breeches look like an early 1700s pattern. His leggings and waistcoat hide a lot of the detail. I could use some help!
  7. Hello all. We'll be putting in a new order soon. I'm wondering if there are any flintlocks/percussion weapons you all would like to see us carry. Before you mention it, I currently cannot get Queen Anne Pistols from my supplier. Ivan Henry Trading Company
  8. Hey Anne. It takes 6-8 weeks for us to get one made. As far as the measurements, it certainly helps to have a stay on when you measure. It doesn't really need to be "the stay" you'll be wearing all of the time, just "a stay". I am meeting with our seamstress today to get all the measurements she'll need. I'll get back with you today or tomorrow. Thanks!
  9. VERY COOL! THANKS FOR SHARING! I JUST MIGHT HAVE TO START MAKING A HOLSTER LIKE THAT!
  10. Here you go! In this picture the front sides are worn down. It was more common to wear them pushed back to reveal more of the petticoat.
  11. I (Ivan Henry Trading Company) have been working with a local seamstress to carry a 100% Linen Hand Finished Mantua - it's taken me a while to coordinate everything, but now I think we finally have it ready to go! These are custom ordered so allow 6-8 weeks. While I know most of you all here in the pub sew yer own garments, I figure there might be a few who don't and would like a nice mantua. Check it out: 1690s-1710s Mantua
  12. We're in! Jeff, would you like me to put that info on your site?
  13. Steve at Blue Box Sutlery is the bomb - I've been keeping him a secret so that he could make my stuff! He is awesome though. Can't go wrong.
  14. Since I live in Florida, I did an interpretation of the outfit. Instead of velvet or silk for the waistcoat and breeches, I went with linen. The justaucorps is a light wool.
  15. Gonna have to get some dead animals and a couple emaciated adoring dogs, but yes, i just may sit around like this all the time.
  16. As some may know, I have been in love with Francois Desportes outfit in his 1699 self portrait. I finally saved up enough to have a kit based on his made for me (don't sew much myself). I received my wool late 1600s style justaucorps and just today received my sleeved waistcoat. I have to say, both pieces are just amazing!!!!!!! Next up, I receive the breeches (note the pocket on the thigh) and a small buff civilian style sword belt. Check it out!
  17. Moose,One of the Lady Seamstress' is putting one together for me. I have saved his info, though. A kit can always use More!

  18. Yes, I watch it now and then. They had a 1800s Harpers Ferry percussion rifle last night.
  19. Ah...not seen this print as of yet, and more of what looks to be double breasted or at least two rows of buttons down the front of the coats...thanks! Proof like this - in fact both Woodes Rodgers drawings - of sailors wearing double breasted jackets during the early 1700s really changes the accepted standards.
