  4. When did they develop Pilot Cloth (P Cloth)? I believe it's a wool that, unlike a Melton, is tighter and when wet gets even tighter. Another Tuppence from Dutch "X" his mark.
  5. Avast ye Buccaneers Bold, Ye Pirates, All. Hear me well. For the First Night of April, in the Old Towne of Beaufort there be an Auction! Of what, sez ye? I tells ye, Sez I. Wenches, lad. The finast. Buy one, two or more! What gets ye, sez ye? I tells ye, sez I! Ye buys Dinner and the Company of one of these most Charming and Aluring Ladies what ken only be found in sech a fine place as this. So come ye, one or come ye all. Fer it's a time we shall be a'havin'!
  6. I have attended several of these. The last one, two years ago. I know most of the Seaport Shanty People and although I was the only Pirate there, they wanted me to come to the "Pub Sings" as meself. The last few years they have had these across the street at the German Club. Once off the grounds............. Capt. Sinbad, Commander of the Vessel on which I serve, visited the Museum years ago. As he made the last bridge and the Museum was nie, he opened with the rail guns and the bow chaser! Once made fast, one of the stuff shirt diectors wantedto have him clapped in double irons! Said it scared the kids! The kids were all trying to get aboard! No, they stick to their period of a shipbuildng town in the 1870s and aint into Pirates!
  7. Thanks for posting this. What a great tribute to the Monomoy Pulling Boat itself. I believe Mystic Seaport Museum has plans for this boat and has one in the collection. A great way to raise awareness and to bring active Navy Personnel, Separated Personnel and the public together.

    Chain Shot.jpg

This appears to me to be a beautifully rendered drawing of chain shot. I say "appears" because it could be a photo of well made chain shot. The problem is, I'm two weeks older than the geezer wots posted them! The "Ayes" aint wot loik them used t' be! Eh? Mr. Hook?
  9. This is funny! I just went on the DuPont v. Cotton-Hemp tyrade having not seen your post. The figures that impressed me the most were the amounts of polution left from the synthetics production v. the natural. With paper, it was even more! At least the Supreme Court has now just given free rieghn to corporations to buy government as they see fit!
  10. At the time Cotton-Hemp cloth was made practical, DuPont was just perfecting Petrolium based Polyester fibre. They pumped an awful lot of money into "Reffer Madness". Which, of course brought reffer smoking from Bohemians and Jazz Musicians to College Campus' and other young people's groups. Although it did serve the purpose of Polyester knocking Cotton-Hemp out of the Ring with a fixed fight.
  11. On this Day I send thee a Menagerie! Hippo Birdies two Ewes! Dutch "X" (his mark)
  12. Now that makes it perfectly clear! This display of weaponry has been most impressive. Thank you.

  14. Thanks t' ye, Mr. Hand for th' postin' o' that book. Most gratefull for it havin th pitures as I have little command o th ritten werd. An thenks t' me shipmate wots ritein thiz down fer me so as I ken thank ye meself. Dutch "X" his mark
  15. Beautiful! I'm particularly fond of this Compass Rose
  16. Mr Bottles, Tis a thing of beauty, indeed. It appears as a presentation set as you mayhaps gift upon a close friend. Stunning. Huzzah, I say. Indeed, Huzzah!
  17. That certainly spells it out! My vessel, "Patience" was a prototype. Called a "Mini Ship 34" because she has a "boat deck". Her layout is such that the salon and cockpit are under a long run coachtop leaving ample room for dinghy storage. In a 34' boat, this can generally be a pain. Do you tow it, rig davits or deflate it? The only change I see in this boat is a tabernakled mast with a boom rather than the side davit that she now has. The mast gives place for steadying/getyouhome sail, radar and crowsnest. That's down the list! Oh! The name of the Dinghy on "Patience", it's "Imp-Patience"! Capn'Rob
  18. From the album: The Cat and theRat.

This was a project to get Lt. Brown clear of the forward cannon. It starts with seven strand and reduces to two. All are done with hard laid, three strand cotton. With the treatment of the Stokholm Tar it seems to stand up quite well. These items are in the elements and in regular use. Well, the Cat not as often!
