This is the largest of a series of knot boards I made several years ago. It's 18"x24". I also made some 12"x18" and 9"x12". In the backgeound is a copy of a charcoal portrait my Dad did in 1931. It is of my Great Grandfather, Solomon. Dad used this study for his final piece for his Art Degree from Yale University, Class of '31. The painting was "The Prodigal Son's Return", although bearded, this was the father's face.

This is a Deck Mat I just made for my neighbor's boat. I have made many over the years and they last a long time, keep their shape and look good. I made one for a friend of mine that has been on a dozen boats since the mid 1970s and has gone on a Circumnavigation! I do enjoy Marlinespike Ropework, greatly.

I have a book, "Sailorman", aboat a fellow that crews on a Thames Barge and learns to sail well enough to crew in the annual races. Very well writen and interesting with beautiful illustrations.

Last Friday the USCG Bark "EAGLE" made for Wilmington, NC. We, the Crewe of the "Meka"II laid in wait in a channel off the Cape Fear River. Once in a narrow area of the river, we sprang our trap! A spectator in another vessel took this shot for which we are grateful. Dutch

Nice! Is there one on the other elbow, also?
Tue. pm, Conny! This young lady is awesome! She wanted to learn to do Ropework right so I bought her "Marlinespike Sailor" by Hervey Garrett Smith. His illustrations are beautiful. The only problem was the flat Turk's Head I wanted was too small in the illustration so I made one actual size in line. Because we're so near the Marine base she wanted any Anchor Tattoos to have rope that looked like rope! She practiced on me!!

"Pay no attention to the 'Cat's Tail' in my left hand. We only use it for "demonstration".

Mark, Thank you for posting these. They've done substantial work already. The system they've used for removing her "hog" was brilliant. Now word has it from the Board of Directors that once the restoration is complete, she will be sailed!!! I can only imagine who you have to "be" or know to go for that "boat ride"!
I hope to be seeing you at Beaufort in a few weeks. All the Best, Dutch of the "Meka"II

FYI. The Schooner in the background with the freefooted foresail. (say that three times fast). Was built in the big shed at Mystic's DuPont Restoration Shipyard. It is the "Amistad", Homeport, New Haven, Connecticut.
