JohnnyTarr
As you can tell I am looking for rope sandle patterns. I figure that I have more time than money so I should make a pair. Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.
Gentleman of Fortune
Let me know if you find anything, as I have been looking for one myself. EcoDragon used to sell hemp sandles, but sadly, they went belly up. The Gurkees are nice, but made with synthetic rope and are glued/melted together instead of tied, but they might give you some insight as to how to make a pair. Maybe some of the knot tying rope experts can give some insight here. Dorian Lasseter
Hmm... I have a book, buried deep within my collection... If time permits, I'll look for it, but as I recall the pattern for making them is relatively easy... I think it uses 1/2 to 3/8 inch hemp line. You start with the soles and make a long oval, sewing it together as you go. Once you achieve the size you need/want, you need to sew in the straps, then make one more wrap of the line for the sole around and finish it off... Obviously I've explained it in a very basic way... there is some planning involved before you start coiling the line, like figuring out and cutting the straps, etc.... If I had the time, I'd make a copy of the rope sandals I have... Truly, D. JohnnyTarr
That would be great. No real hurry though I have time. I plan to do this once winter hits. Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.
Rateye
I've been also thinking about making some very basic sandals. I have the leather and might just rough in some rope. Let's face it, it dosn't have to look great, just be functional like they might have done back when! Rats

Littleneckhalfshell
These links are from a site about Jap. rope sandals, the second link is also found on the first link site and is a pattern that gives an idea about how they are made. It might be a starting point. ? http://www.rhinohide.cx/tousando/yoriaku/waraji.html http://www.rhinohide.cx/tousando/img/waraji.jpg No Fear Have Ye of Evil Curses says you... Aye,...
