William Brand
It is very cruel to dangle a nice looking shirt in front of me when 2008 hasn't even begun yet and PIP is 340 days away. That said, I'll take mine with everything. Â Â Â
Mary Diamond
Oh...lovely work there Mad Mary!Nice details too! Is that 'faggitting' (sp?) I see? How much more would that be? Yes, though I have now seen it spelled 3 different ways! Not sure of the spelling myself, I used fagot, as spelled here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fagot stitch The stitching would be $15 additional. Oooh, shiny! Cheeky Actress
Okay, I've been asked this question by a friend. Would black work (cuffs only) on these shirts be considered period correct? And if so, how much extra? Member of "The Forsaken"
Cheeky Actress
'ello? No answer for the question below? Member of "The Forsaken"
Mary Diamond
My apologies for the delay. I am only on the Pub once or twice a day at present. Blackwork considerably predates GAoP, and had lost popularity by the 17th century. I personally have not seen any English, French or Dutch portraits from GAoP which have shown blackwork of any kind. Should your friend come across any examples, I would be interested in seeing them. Oooh, shiny!
Capt. Sterling
Should your friend come across any examples, I would be interested in seeing them. so would I "I being shot through the left cheek, the bullet striking away great part of my upper jaw, and several teeth which dropt down the deck where I fell... Captain Midnight
That is one of the most beautiful shirts I have ever seen, Mary! And the buttons! The buttons are magnificent! "Now then, me bullies! Would you rather do the gallows dance, and hang in chains 'til the crows pluck your eyes from your rotten skulls? Or would you feel the roll of a stout ship beneath your feet again?" ---Captain William Kidd--- (1945)
Cheeky Actress
I don't think my friend has any historical proof that 'black work' was still about in the mid 1600s/early 1700s. I just think she likes the look. Perhaps its just a float over of her days doing Queen Elizabeth at RenFaire. Member of "The Forsaken"
