Hello all! Due to the rules of the web site, I can't post the actual article here, but I did publish an article entitled "Peter Cornelius Hoof and Me" in April/may of 2013 in the "Pirates and Privateers" newsletter published by Cindy Vallar. I believe you can still view the article on the web site at: www.CindyVallar.com. If it has been replaced by the new issue, you can also see it on my blog at: PeterCorneliusHoof.blogspot.com. I promsied UndertheBlackFlag.com that they could re-print it on theri web site in 60 days, so you'll be able to catch it there later this year. Ahoy all! Hurricane here, using the only user name that I can seem to get to work here. Anyway, my autobiography covering my 30 years as a pirate performer is out. From 1982 as a young Seafair Pirate in Seattle until my rediscovery of my mojo at Conch Republic Independence Days in April of this year, all the tales, adventures, fortunes and misfortunes are laid out for all to see. Lots of hilarious tales... from anchors caught in snot boxes to sleeping with a blind guy. And a very odd parallel of events in my life to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. And amazingly, it's all true. It's for sale on Amazon And on my own site: Memoirs of a Buccaneer - Hurricane

Just an interesting tidbit to add to our writing. I'll update as I can, (or if anyone wants to join in, feel free). Before the mast The position of the crew whose living quarters on board were in the forecastle (the section of a ship forward of the foremast). The term is also used more generally to describe seamen as compared with officers, in phrases such as, "he sailed before the mast." Most ships today have cabins for their crew. Between the Devil and the Deep The devil was the longest seam of the ship, thought to be the first plank on the outer hull of a wooden vessel from stem to stern. When at sea and the devil had to be caulked, the sailor hung from a rope t…

I am reading John Atkins' book The Navy Surgeon; or Practical System of Surgery and I came across this. I liked it so well that I turned it into a photo so you could see it in its original form. It's from page 327.
