This year's Fort Taylor Pyrate Invasion is being run by the Friends of Fort Taylor themselves. There is NO contract with anyone to run this festival. There is NO ONE being paid to run the event. The Friends are a non-profit organization, and this is one of our fundraisers to Save Our Fort. There are several groups that have stepped up to assist the Friends with this event and they are HELPING me and the Friends to make this event run smoothly and to make this event fun and safe for everyone. It is with my eternal gratitude that I am letting everyone know that the ArchAngel Crewe, the Mercury Crewe, the Sacred Heart Crewe, the Valhalla Pirates, the Captains of the Dev…

Greetings Dearest Pyrat Friends and Family, It is with a heavy heart that I write this post as I have grown to care so much about those in our Pyrat family and have put so much blood, sweat, Love and tears into the Fort Taylor Pirate Festival. The Friends of Fort Taylor have unanimously voted to cancel the contract between the Bone Island Buccaneers and the FOFT for the Fort Taylor Pirate Fest. We will no longer be managing and working the Festival. I do not have a reason for the cancellation as I only found out by a two sentence letter that was sent to our office. Today I spoke with the CEO of the Friends of Fort Taylor, Dan DeDeo, and he informed that the FTPF may no…

It's done! Surgeon's Journal 2009 Now new and improved with pictures and added insight (cough)! Get a shot of rum and enjoy it! (Personally, I'm going to get a shot of rum and enjoy not having to do any more it!) Oh, and for those of you who are feeling nostalgic (and can really hold your rum) here are the other two. Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for a wonderful week. First, Brig, for telling me every year how much fun she has had and making me want to play pirate. William of the Mercury Crew for inviting me to cast my lot in with them. Fayma, I have coordinated a large event or two in the past and herding pirates has got to be way harder than herding cats, it would not have happened without you. Sansanee and Vintage Sailor for letting me feel useful by cutting their vegetables. Israel Cross for showing me how to put the buckles on my shoes. Shay of the Keys for letting me tag along with her during the week. Elizabeth and Mooseworthy for making me laugh ( in a …

First a report on this years auction; It went well in spite of being rescheduled on the fly at least 3 times. As I have posted elsewhere $813 was raised and given to Friends of Fort Taylor. They were surprised and quite grateful. Thanks to Captain Bo for the the idea, the chest and all of the swag he put in to kick off the project. And thanks to all of you who contributed, who I will not enumerate for fear of leaving someone out, a flaw that will be fixed next year. And speaking of next year, I will act as coordinator of this event if that is acceptable to the crew. Some thoughts on what went wrong, right and sideways. What went wrong mostly involved the scheduling. I…

I have finally been able to sit down and get my thoughts together. This PIP/FTPF was certainly different for all of us. Harry Smid's memory lives on, but his presence was sorely missed. There were many things that caused this difference, a recessed economy, new Park Management, a larger encampment and many other factors. All in all, I believe we had another successful Event. There were no major problems that I saw and overall it was safe and sound. Of course, we had some issues we face each year, including scheduling problems and changes. However, I believe we have done a service to all and a good job presenting the Event. I am proud of the work the Bone Island Buccaneer…

Well, I arrived. Nobody said anything about my Patrick Hand original hat on the way except for every single person in security in Detroit. "Wow! What a cool hat?" "Where did you get that?" "I'll bet it would be good for keeping out the sun off you." "Where can I buy one." I think they imported security people from other posts to discuss my hat. I expect my next trip through Detroit Airport security to be very interesting with a gaggle of planter's hatted security folks. (Patrick, there's a whole market in Detroit calling your name.) Other than that, the trip to Miasmi was uneventful. On the trip from MIA to EYW I sat next to a young (young to me - mid twenties) girl who…

Ok, this is where we can start planning and tossing around ideas for next years Buccaneer Encampment. Let's start with what went right and wrong in 2009. We can fix and improve for 2010. I have every intention of being there next year, one way or the other. Let's hear from those who were there last year. Animal

OK so I figure everyone has their own stories and lies... here's just the start of my trip even before I got the Keywest.... More will follow and I'm sure will be added to by the usual suspects!! On Wednesday Dec 2nd at approximately 5am, Rats (that be me!), along with my esteemed colleagues “12Pound Brian” and the infamous Matty Bottles; left the sky port of Milwaukee. An hour or two later, we landed in the warmer climate of Altan-teea, where I lost my boarding papers and Matty dropped his drivers license. About a half hour later we managed to find Mr. Bottles’ ID and I begged another paper for transport, just as the boat was being loaded. However we did have to walk ba…

I just want to take a minute to thank those involved in PIP and the reinactors, thanks for your making me feel so welcome, even though I was with vendors. You looked out for my well being and made sure that I felt included and offered for me to join in the fun. I had big hopes to hang out in the pub after hours...and I didn't do it. We came to the closing dinner, but my friends, I was with got hungry and we had to go eat. They are on an old peoples schedule. We eat early, go to bed early and get up early. Killed me. I will try to post some of my pics on here too that I got. I got some nice battle ones and lots of the Schooner Wolf. Thanks again...hope we make it…

I found myself at PIP but on the last day I lost something I love...I lost a mini wine glass that is neat that I bought last year at a 2nd hand store in Big Pine Key. It's very ornate, and I had it on my belt, it's silver with glass and has my name on the bottom in marker: The Forking Queen. I would pay for postage and a reward to get it back!!!! It may be laying on the grounds or near the modern camping area.

This list is provided as a roll call throughout the year to gage the number of attendees who are staying inside and outside the Fort Zachary Taylor Historical Park at PIP 2008. The attendees will be listed by camp (period or modern) or hotel. Attendees may be a part of any encampment without camping inside the park and interaction during the festival is not limited to camping arrangements. The list merely reflects names and sleeping arrangments of attendees and the list will be updated towards the end of the year with a "confirmed" status for those attendees who have secured their transportation to and from the event. There are many period camps in and outside the fort a…

So I am not sure who all rode in my car (the white Montana with license plates that say PYRATES)- but did any of you leave anything that might belong to you...glass...green...with some rope work on it? I didn't have time yesterday to run around and check with everyone, so I just packed it in before we left and it is safe.
