To all my pyrate brethren I am needing your assistance in Making a Wish come true. My crew The Brotherhood of the Crossed Bones is going Over The Edge if we can raise $1500.00 as we did last year. Every donation even a dollar counts. Please help make a wish come true. http://www.austinovertheedge.com/BuccaneerByron/

This week I have had High School Special Ed., Fifth grade Reading & Social Studies, Third grade, and Kindergarten. My certification is in 9-12 social studies. I think I should get a T-shirt or at least a bumper sticker for making it through the week! (Last week I was installing electrical conduit and water lines on a construction site!) Fifth graders are NOT human! My hats'-off to those who deal with Kindergarten everyday! Good Lord what a hectic time that was! I didn't lose any kids and nobody got hurt or had an "accident" on my watch, so I consider that a successful day for an amature! Bo

I've been thinking (a bit...I know) and I was wondering if we as pirate reenactors could kind of take up the cause of supporting the ethical excavation of underwater archaeological sites rather than support the treasure salvors (more business oriented than concerned with "the public trust") who tend to stake out the "valuable" wrecks for profit, bring up artifacts and don't put NEARLY the time and effort into interpreting what they have that archaeologists do. This rich history belongs to ALL of us- every culture that was (and is) part of the Atlantic Basin (and further afield) is valuable, and well, I'd just like to see the awesome folks that are on here help support th…

I posted this here because it's a general re-enactment question and not just a pirate question. Feel free to move this thread if I put it in the wrong place. I've been curious about something for a while, and This Publishing Fiasco had me thinking about it again. Have any of you ever encountered a re-enactor who was also into pseudohistory. Not just some guy who took his history cues from Disney; I'm talking real, agenda-driven, eff-those-hidebound-fools revisionism. Like someone doing the pirate-freemason-templar in all seriousness. Or perhaps a WW2 re-enactor who denies the Holocaust - out of character. How do you handle it? Do most re-enactment groups have rules that …

Comming back from "John Levique Days" Chrispy and I decided to stop at the "warm mineral springs" otherwise known as the Fountain of Youth that Ponce deLeon searched for. If anybody is in the area I highly recommend it as a post event rest and relaxation. On a really cool side note I found a small piece of a very large (original size was at least 4X4 inches) shark tooth under the sand in the packed mud/clay.

Southern California -- this just in March 6, 2012 | 10:35 am Authorities said the cannonball that struck and killed a 33-year-old woman in San Diego County was homemade and that alcohol was involved in the incident. The woman's husband and another man were working on a cannon shortly after midnight outside the couple's mobile home when it exploded, according to a Cal-Fire spokesman. One of the two men was sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The incident is being investigated by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Few details were immediately available, and it's unclear exactly what killed the woman. The incident occurred in a mobile home park in Potrero…

DUBLIN, Calif. (AP) — A stunt for the TV show "MythBusters" sent an errant cannonball through a California family's house and into a parked minivan a few hundred feet away. Producers for the Discovery Channel show fired the cannonball Tuesday at the Alameda County Sheriff's Department bomb range behind the Santa Rita Jail when it misfired. Sheriff's spokesman J.D. Nelson told the Contra Costa Times (http://bit.ly/umCZnD ) that no one was injured and the home's residents didn't even wake up until the dust was settled — literally on top of them. Nelson, who is also a consultant for the show, said producers have used the cannon that they built at the range more than 50 ti…

I'm curious, who here smokes and what? I smoke all natural sun dried American tobacco in a brier wood pipe and I also smoke, on special occasions, Grenadier cigars. The pipe I started smoking because of my grandpa, the cigars I started smoking because of my brother. Also I found out General Patton smoked the same type of cigar so that made me like them a little more. Once I smoke the cigar down enough, I split it open and smoke the remaining tobacco through my pipe. I tried cigarettes, I didn't really care for them. When I did try them I smoked "Capri"(something my brother smokes) and I tried Marlboro due to my uncle. Neither of them compare to the pipe or the cigar. I a…
