scabbard/sheath? materials in the gaop?

leather,canvas metal,wood?what would sword sheaths be made of?id say all of the above from my exp...but as most here are more familiar with naval things than i am i thought i'd inquire.

The majority of actual shipboard swords were not kept in scabbards because of the corrosion factor of these materials some swords had scabbards but most were officers who kept the blades out of scabbard unless going ashore when they would need to carry their sword ....most common sailors would just slip their cutlasses in their belt if leaving the ship.... there are wrecks that show cutlasses stowed along the rail
