Port Royal, Jamica. JOINT THREAD

Capt. Sterling

Now, Jack, no need to go off in a huff. And I hope you weren't refering to me as a troll!

I can heed both your advice. I'll greet the officials to save my ship from undo attention, but there's no saying I can't light the green lantern and look for good Mr. Broadmore and give him your best regards—both verbal and physical.

I must apologize for not following the story more closely. I see that medical attention is needed, with me nowhere to be found. I have fallen so far behind in the thread that it will now take me several hours to catch up -- hours which are in short supply. So feel free to work around me. Make stuff up, kill me off, whatever keeps the flow going.

We'll just fill in when you're busy but please feel free to jump in when you can.... Sterling suffers from bouts of malaria, which he allows to go to extremes because he's usually busy taking care of others and forgetting about himself.... the disease is something else he picked up in Africa....

So when you can... we look forward to you adding your two cents and more...

  • 4 weeks later...

Hello to all,

I'm new to the 'role playing' aspect of Port Royal - perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. I am currently looking into public theaters of Port Royal. I find it odd that we have an actress in the story line, but she hasn't gotten to the stage yet?!

Though, I have looked about the internet for information on such a thing, I am not finding much. I know that the Spainish City did have one or two of them prior to the great quake of '92. Yet, there is little to go on.

What little I have found gives me the understanding that it was a 'public' theater where all could find entertainment there for a price. There was no restrictions on slaves, indentured servant or comman man to enjoy a show.

If anyone can point me in the proper direction, I would be most greatful!

Thank you...

I don't think its out of the realm of possibility at all. Port Royal was a very sophisticated city before the earthquake, on a par with Boston in the 1700s. The gentry of town came mostly from England, where of course, theatre had been part of society since long before Shakespeare. There is no documentation I could find, but certainly I think it's very feasible.

What has become of Sir Henry Morgan? Is he still in the game?

Greetings all!

I am well... thanks for asking. Just been busy with that pesky real life that draws me away from the port I love so much. I miss you all and hope to return soon. I believe we have a voyage to go on so we can move this adventure out on the high seas for a bit.

Ah... real life...**sigh** we can all relate to its tuggings and pullings... Good to hear all is well with you and yours!!! We have managed to keep ourselves busy and will do so until you find the time to rejoin the fold.

(although at this point, Captain Sterling may NEED to sail away with all due haste!! ;) so when ever you are ready to set sail, just say the word.)

I am absolutly LOVING this thread. It is so cool to see the tales of the "port" unfold. I'm almost done reading through the whole post. I can't wait to add to the foray. Good work.

Thank you, sir, for the gracious compliment. We are all having great fun, and welcome anyone wishing to jump in and play!

SirHenry, glad to hear you are well, and only that pesky thing called life has dragged you away for a bit. Did you know, I have a nice, shiny new cannon sitting in your courtyard, just waiting for a thank-you note!

Come back to the game soon,

Ok, for our little story here, would I need to sneak my ship into port? If so, could I jsut changed the name of the ship and be in? Would I also have to have the proper paperwork? I really don't want to spend to much time on getting my ship into port. I've already got 2 paragraghs down and i'm not even close. Just wondering what might have to happen. I really want to get my character on land. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well we have two possible other pyrate ships in Port, with captains of dubious nature... so if you bring yer vessel in you can actually handle it as you please. So far we have no one actually playing the harbour master...

And you know, now that brain is engaged and actually thinking, during this time frame, Port Royal was considered the wickedest place in the world... so I honestly don't think too many folks would be concerned about another pirate ship pulling into the harbour... actually, I think my character is really the oddball... though technically, I do a slightly later than 1660s impression....

I slipped the Rakehell in at midnight. Next morning, a little bribery of burgundy, a little prevarication, and all was well.

Welcome to the game, mate! From a captain of dubious nature!
