^It's a toss up -- If I could go back in time and sail with any real-life pirate captain, I'd be hard pressed to choose between sailing with Captain Sam Bellamy as he captured the Whydah, or sailing with Calico Jack Rackham and finding out the full story of Anne Bonny & Mary Read.

However, I'd shun the DeLorean as my choice of Time Machine, and I'd choose this lovely Steampunk alternative:

V 'Tis May Day today! Are there any celebrations going on in your area? Morris teams dancing up the dawn? What are your festive rituals for this very welcome time of year?

^Clearing the yard of old brush (Burn Baby Burn!). Well, I should be out there preparing the flower beds...but it's been far too cold. Spring has been here for at least three (3) weeks and it's still freezing out!

< I wonder if we'll ever have Spring this year...rain and snow so far.

V Passing along the question.

^ Depends on how many margaritas I drink during a hot evening. Probably a lot longer than my bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin, since I prefer G&Ts and martinis. B)

< Got to thinking. I haven't bid on anything on Ebay for quite a while. Not since the 20 lb job lot of vintage and costume jewelry bits and pieces, that I reuse in the custome jewelry I make. Hummm....might be time to go take another stroll....?

^Stay at the cottage -- water front & back (we're on a peninsula), nice breeze, generally 10 degrees F. cooler than the city. And when it gets hot even there -- take a swim every couple of hours.

< We could use some of that warm weather here. It's windy and cool. So, I'm staying in and doing some very belated spring cleaning

[WTF? I was in the midst of posting a drunken dissertation on how long my opened bottle of tequila kept (over 10 years) when the Pub suddenly disappeared from under me! Bloody cyberspace gremlins!

Yup, after a half blenderful of frozen margarita mix and this venerable tequila, I can attest that it still has more "kick" than agave-flavoured water!]

And now, back to our previously scheduled Q:

What do you do to keep cool in hot weather?

^ How can I choose just ONE favourite pub? How about ONE OF my favourite pubs? The Scotsman's Pack in Hathersage, Derbyshire. 18th century trading inn with a Tudoresque timber & whitewash exterior, dark wood-panelled interior. Jane Austen & Little John memorabilia (both have local connections). Excellent food -- I had the venison with juniper berries. Patio out back with a little stream running by.

^ My favourite pub doesn't exist any more. It was a hole-in-the-wall place called the Prince of Wales Pub. Very homey and welcoming. The owner of the pub got the lease pulled out from under him by the new owners of the building, so he's looking to re-create this pub elsewhere. Can't wait to hear when that happens!

< Hmmmm... makes me want a pint of Guinness. At the PROPER temperature (cold Guinness- GRRRR!)

True, MadL! We stayed the night! ;)

^ Okay, how about my favourite LOCAL pub -- Whelan's Gate. Irish pub with a very cozy snug that comfortably fits my entire 'Robin Hood Appreciation Society', complete with faux fireplace. "Celtic Jam" singalong every Tuesday night. And the best chips for miles around. Blackthorn cider on tap.
