I just ordered balusters( spindles ) 4x4x30 for railing to go along the walls. I still have yet to find a barrel or two. My wife says get a manican and dress'em up. Black Syren Posted March 31, 2006 Share Posted March 31, 2006 How wonderful..So when is the first Pirate Raid at your house to be???..by the way another idea and I do not know what kind of flooring you have..But someone could paint random gold coins on the floor or make one big one as a sort of centerpiece. Would be intresting. The fourth pic from the top...The one with the fence..I would paint a mural..perhaps a seedy tavern's insides with fellow Pyrates taking their ease and keeping a weather eye open. If you do that seal it really good. Across the top or ceiling I would hand more netting careful of any fixtures such as lights and fans. Find you an old row boat if you have room and make it into a ice chest. The only suggestion I can think of readily would be...., since you are in San Diego., perhaps finding some used rope., fairly large, from a local marina may be good somewhere in this. They can be pricey as well but sample all their work ahead of time. As for Jolly Roger chairs if you or your wife sew they are quite easy. Your lawn chairs would suffice. Go buy four diffrent Jolly Roger flags and sew them to form slip covers to cover each chair. As for the boat idea if it is too large cut it in half and set it up against a fence and use it that way for an ice chest. Really easy to do. And Harbour Master that is a great idea. If you can find the rope you can also drape it across the top. You'll need an Anchor in there somewhere as well..perhaps as a door stop? And if you are game for it I would search out antique stores for a lantern to place as a centerpiece on your table for nighttime excursions. I think were gonna go wit bammboo behind some of the railing. The window with the bars .. a thought was to place an image of pirates in the klink there. I used ta see them everywhere when I be a youg'un. I recalls seein one of them in pyrate garb, but that were many years past. What if you taped a horroizon, and then painted ocean... then move the tape and paint the sky.... maybe add some Islands or a small ship off in the distance.... I'll always be adding things..an we jest got started Don't know how it is where you are but here in Florida, when I used bamboo wall coverings (inside or outside) they became a roach motel......the bamboo hold moisture between it and the wall and roaches love it.....you might be able to use it if you keep it sprayed. The cap rail itself is gonna be 11" wide to the wall so we can put piratety stuff on 'em. The three latter types would be divided, one to port and one to starboard of each type. The halyard would be a thicker gauge rope than the braces or sheets. For your purposes, a realistic arrangement of such lines assumes you will have balusters/rail/belaying pins on two sides of your space. Also, braces for a given sail are probably going to be belayed to a point much different from the sheets for that same sail; however, you probably would see the different lines from several different sails grouped together in a given set of belaying pins. I suspect the real answer is going to be "whatever looks good." Bottom line is, there probably are way more lines on a ship than you will want in your recreational space. If you have the money, don't be afraid to put in a few extra pins and leave some without rope. Oh, one other thing. The belaying pins might go in a "pin rail" mounted down low, rather than directly in holes in the cap rail. Tying off rope unfortunatley cutts down on the available space to walk about and the railing supports may not support ropes that are taunt. I am not ruling it out as of yet but I do have to be thoughtful as to how I go about it. I donnot want to attach the rail to the ajacent building because of ground movement -which in turn will create more structural stress on the building which is already a leaning building. The awning is old and shifts about depending on temperature. I have mini rope latters on the Starboard side for example, that are lax when it is hot and taunt when it rains. As to Actually putting a sail on the cieling of the awning, I aspire to, however I will have to do more research because some the things you explain are just not in my reach mentally as of yet. I have only sailed in a sail boat once..get me drift.. My best example was in the restraunt called the Brigantine, one room had all the rigging and sails wit a crows nest. I don't think I 'll get that carried away nontheless I may eat those word latter. When I complete the railing I will post some pics of the work and "we" can go from there. Keep the suggestions coming. And if anyone lives here in So. CAL. that sees an old rotting wooden boat someone wanrt to get rid of lett me know. I had to cut the security window iron work for clearance and will re-weld it tommarow.
